Liposomal ceftriaxone ?

I started taking oral liposomal ceftriaxone a couple of weeks ago and have noticed a reduction in my symtoms such as a decrease in neuropathy and it eliminated my headaches. I am wondering if anyone else has used ceftriaxone in liposomal form and had similar results? Thanks

I think it’s a relatively new offering from this compounding pharmacy that my llmd heard about at a conference a month ago. The pharmacist claims that the liposomal form is supposed to rival IV ceftriaxone. I have been on many antibiotics over the years and my llmd thought this might be a good choice for me before I try IV antibiotics. As I have mentioned , most of my symptoms are neurological and from what I have read, ceftriaxone passes the bbb. The ceftriaxone, along with my other meds are minimizing/eliminating my neuro symptoms. From the very beginning (six years in July) my symptoms have been neurological. I don't have any joint pain per se and I am able to work and exercise so I consider myself very lucky. Now when I remove the antibiotics it's a completely different story. So I have been stuck on the long term antibiotic regime as it's the only thing that hits the Lyme, Bartonella and Babesia. Are you thinking about trying the liposomal ceftriaxone ? What are your infections and how long have you been sick?

To a degree it has been a game changer. Last year I was trying to wean off one of my antibiotics (amoxicillin). I was able to cut my amoxicillin dose in half for about a month but then my neuro symptoms came out raging. So I bumped my amoxicillin up by one and that didn't help ( like it usually does) and then doubled the amoxicillin and that still did not stop my neuro symptoms. At that time my llmd informed me of liposomal ceftriaxone being available through Hopkington drug in Massachusetts so I decided to give it a try. After a week or so I noticed that my neuro symptoms were much better and or eliminated.

Yes nerve pain is definitely my most concerning symptoms. When decreasing any of my antibiotics my scalp begins to burn, I get an unrelenting headache, and the numbness and tingling that I typically have in just my face begins to spread into my neck and then chest. The burning also begins to spread throughout my body. So it's a game changer for me as it (along with several other antibiotics) decreases my nerve pain. Problem is i am stuck on the antibiotic hamster wheel but again I feel lucky to have found a combination of meds that allow me to function and work. Now I just need to find a way to get off the wheel .

This is very interesting information. I have been diagnosed with Lyme and Bartonella and have several neuro symptoms with internal vibrations being the most disruptive. My last to Bart test have come back negative, so my LLMD is thinking it's taken care of. Hmmmm. I think I may have Babesia as well, but no tests have confirmed this.

Starting Tuesday (June 4), I'm supposed to start taking ceftriaxone + lidocaine daily injections, for one month, to try to combat my neurological symptoms. I didn't know that there's an oral form of ceftriaxone. Today, I was leaning toward not doing it. I'm SO NOT a needle girl, so I don't want to have to do this for an unknowing length of time. Ugh! My doc hasn't mentioned an oral form, but I would love to know more about that.

Aurora2013, how long did you take the ceftiaxone? Are you still taking it along with the other antibiotics?

There is Omnicef if you're wanting an oral Cephalosporon antibiotic.
Omnicef (or Ceftin in Canada because Omnicef isn't available) - is a commonly prescribed antibiotic for lyme.

Omnicef? Is that like oral ceftriaxone? I'm confused.

I also just read the ceftriaxone (IV) can cause gallbladder problems. I wonder if the injections can, too.
Wondering if I should do this. :-(

I am supposed to start IM injections of ceftriaxone and lidocaine. So, I shouldn't be too concerned about the gallbladder?

I just finished one month of Bicillin injections. They didn't do what my doc had hoped. During week four, I believe I started herxing. My last injection was Wednesday, and I'm still feeling off. The only thing I'm taking now is a probiotic and a few basic vitamins (Calcium, D and B-12).

So many variables, and I just don't know what direction to go.

I have not tried pulsing. When I simply miss a dose of a particular antibiotic (Lyme brain) my symptoms rage. In addition to this I have new symptoms that begin and they eventually spread throughout my body. It takes some time before i am able to get to baseline.

I continue to take the liposomal ceftriaxone along with other antibiotics. For what it's worth, I tried I M ceftriaxone and it did not work nearly as well as the liposomal Ceftriaxone.

Yes unfortunately they do. It makes little sense as I know the antibiotics have a half life so I should not experience such a quick increase of symptoms but this is what happens every time I intentionally or unintentionally miss a dose. I wonder if anyone else experiences something similar?
