Has anyone been told to avoid folate/folic acid/methylfolate when treating babesia or malaria like parasites?https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18297892
I found this study on malaria talking about how it feeds on folic acid. I know babesia functions similar
I wanted to update my experience. To recount, I've been treating babesia for 7 weeks, with a comprehensive herb regimen, and notably, L-Arginine. Not sure about
progress, but staving off the worst symptoms at least. I also have been taking a strong methyl-B complex, a dedicated methylfolate, and, liberally, a multi-B.
Last evening I stopped all the "B"s. This morning I awoke under the weather and unable to do my normal morning fast. After a couple hours up I went back to bed, and it was like a freight train hit me. Panic that I needed to find a doctor, despair that I was not winning the battle. But then I remembered that I had dropped the folates. That gave me the perspective that maybe they really were suppressing the action of the herbs. I had expected maybe a 20% effect; this was more like a 500% effect! If these were herxes I was experiencing, this was a very good thing indeed! I had hope, the anchor of the soul.
This could be herxing, it could be something else. It's too early to reach conclusions. I'm doing a lot better now. I'm glad I cut back on herb dosages last evening, just in case the folate reaction proved to be stronger than I expected. When I know more I'll post back.
