When in the moldy house and office, I had:
- loss of balance, bumping into walls and doors
- could feel my body sway when standing still
- night sweats
- waking up gasping for air
- coughing, especially at night
- asthma like symptoms - coughing, air hunger, chest pain
- sudden onset of IBS-C (more frequently causes diarrhea)
- itchy spots
- extreme thirst
- extreme dry eyes and mouth, especially at night - thought I had Sjogren’s
- hormone imbalance, HPA axis imbalance
- exercise intolerance
- increased joint and muscle pain
- irritability, mood swings
- chemical sensitivities increased (especially to fragrance)
After moving and starting detox for mold:
- extreme irritability, mood swings, bouts of rage, wanting to die
- burning sensations in tissues
- pain
- even worse chemical sensitivities
This is all I remember right now. I think I blocked a lot from my memory.
I should point out that to my knowledge, there was no new mold or water damage incident that triggered the mold illness. It was the same buildings all along.
My chronic Lyme symptoms started in 2009. As the years went by, I developed new and more symptoms, and symptoms that came and went randomly began to come more frequently and leave for shorter periods of time.
In 2015, I got sick with some kind of respiratory infection that caused bronchitis. My whole family got it, only I never recovered. That infection apparently flipped the switch to activate that genetic susceptibility to mold.
All those years I had been living in the same house and working in the same office building.
However, I had left that house for a few years and returned in 2001. I moved back into my old room where the roof had leaked and caved in about
ten years before. about
two weeks after returning home, I developed the real chronic fatigue syndrome, sleeping 10-12 hours a night and hardly being able to function. Felt like I was trudging through a swamp mentally and physically. Was like that for a year until I got a job and started working again.
I didn’t know then, but I am sure now, that the fatigue and intense fog I experienced was due to mold exposure. After working again, I seemed okay until around 2005 when strange digestive symptoms started. A couple years later, I started having inexplicable redness, burning, and tightness in my face. Then in 2009, 4 days after a flu vaccine, a host of wild, bizarre neurological symptoms started, and I was never the same again.
I believe long-term exposure to mold and water damaged buildings slowly crippled my immune, endocrine, and digestive systems and set me up for chronic Lyme.
