n-acetyl-l-cysteine and acetyl-l-carnitine can be easily confused.
https://www.livestrong.com/article/552774-n-acetyl-l-cysteine-and-acetyl-l-carnitine/I tried both. Looking at my suppliments used notes:
n-acetyl-l-cysteine; note says "lowers candida and mold, raises Gluthathion".
EDIT: n-acetyl-l-carnitine; note says "to much energy" (LOL). Must have effected my thyroid or adrenals and made me nervous.
Some amino acids might not be not good for "Thyroidians", trial and sometimes error. Autoimmune thyroid can be a "touchy" thing.
