Migraines with Visual Impairment

I've never had a migraine before. But I think I am having one now. Yesterday afternoon I had an episode of sudden dizziness, visual impairment, intense nausea, upset stomach, and hot flashes. Then the left side of my head started hurting. The pain hasn't been that bad. But the dizziness and visual impairment has continued. I woke up this morning, and my right eye still isn't functioning correctly. Are the visual symptoms supposed to last that long? It's quite annoying and somewhat scary. It's like the focus in my right eye is off. Things are a little blurry. It's hard to explain. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I suffered horribly from migraines as a ****. Yes, there was dizziness, blurry eyes, extreme nausea, and extreme pain for me; everyday. It very well could be a migraine, but your continued visual impairment leads me to believe that your Lyme disease is pretty active right now. I’ve gone through this recently, and researched visual impairments and Lyme disease. What I found was an article that linked MS to NMO (Neuromyelitis optica). If you believe as I do that nearly every neurological disease IS Lyme disease, this is most likely what’s happening, IMO. There is a simple blood test that can test for this disorder. My LLMD opted not to do it, and instead agreed that It’s Lyme related. I didn’t have pain with it, but everyone is different, and Lyme disease reacts differently in each one of us. Blurriness was the most problematic symptom for me. There are parts of my eyes that I can’t see out of, and glasses don’t help. I hope I’ve been of some help. You’re not alone, and frankly I’m scared of it too.

I suffer from migraines with aura. My visual impairment (aura) usually lasts about 30 minutes. Then the headache, nausea, fatigue, and heat sensitivity set in.

Since this has never happened to you before and you are still suffering from effects, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go get checked out.

Hoagie, that's why I was kind of concerned. Most people have told me their visual stuff goes away quickly. But I have had one friend who says hers goes in and out for 24 hours.

I went to the walk in clinic at lunch just for peace of mind. They did an EKG, checked lithium levels (I'm on lithium now), thyroid labs, kidneys, liver, cbc, and something else. No mention of migraine. I feel like that was the obvious answer here. lol. They were mainly concerned about the vision changes. Me too. But now the headache hurts worse. The dizziness is still the same. It feels like I am walking through a moving tunnel.

Dude, that’s my plan. It’s time for an eye doctor appt anyways.

calnpa, that's one of my worst fears. When lyme starts attacking my eyes and teeth I start freaking out. I really hope yours gets better with treatment. I scheduled an appt with my eye doctor today. He had lyme himself, so hopefully he will be more informed than most.

Dude, the doctor I saw yesterday is ordering a brain MRI. He thought for sure that I was experiencing lithium toxicity, so when that came back low he decided we needed to play it safe. I'm hoping it answers some questions for us. He's the first doctor to order one since I've been sick with lyme.

Schedule an appt with an optometrist and get a visual fields test.

When I told my eye dr that I needed her to check out my eyes due to lyme - the visual fields test was one plus she looked at the back of my eye to see the optic nerve.

This whole cluster of symptoms sounds like babesia or parasites.

Had you started any new meds or herbs recently?

Did anything different happen earlier or the day before - new activity, increased workout, sauna or massage or chiro session?

Any new tick bites or possible tick exposure?

Walkingbyfaith, I didn’t take anything new I don’t think. But I’ve been thinking back. Four days before I had a short deep tissue massage, lymphatic massage, and my first ionic foot bath. That’s about the only thing I did differently that week. Meds were all the same. I missed a few doses of my psych meds, but even after getting them back in my system the migraine has continued.

The massages could definitely have released something. Do you do all those together regularly or was this new?

I would think it could definitely have triggered something.

I’m not familiar with ionic foot baths. Not sure if they would trigger any kind of herx or not.

I have continued to have symptoms for 9 days. But my eye doctor appointment went great. He said I have some iritis, but otherwise my eyes were in great shape. My brain MRI was clear too. It's all a mystery to me. If I am still having symptoms 9 days later, then what in the world could cause this kind of an attack? I am leaning toward mold toxicity because my symptoms have gotten better while being at someone else's house. To be continued. I have an ND appt this afternoon. Hoping he can shed some light on things.
