New babesia treatment?

I wonder if it’s Plaquenil?

It has a long half life - 30-50 days

And it has antimalarial properties - but I highly doubt two pills would take care of babesia

Edit - Plaquenil isn’t new tho.

Thanks for your reply Girlie and i apologize for my no detaling post my neurolyme has me limited and also i drove from bullhead city Arizona to san Diego and only had a coulpe hours of sleep and didnt get all the datails down i will be back on monday the Dr said it was a new treatment i will know hopefully on monday he did not tell me what it was he said we'll wait for the results and well im very intrigued to know what it is he also said it helps for lyme 🤷🏼‍♂️

One of the members here is on tafenoquine, he seemed to say it was quite effective for his babesia.

I also saw another person in the FB babesia buddies group was starting to take it as well.

So it doesn't seem like a lot of people have taken it yet, but maybe there will be a bit of an uptick depending on patient reports.

Wow, that's right, the half-life on that thing is huge! that could be a bit intimidating, especially if you are prone to bad herxes...

I’m thinking at my next appt I might ask DrJ what his thoughts are on Disulfuram and tafenoquine.

Although I’m thinking I’ll be “seeing” KF at my appt in September... not dr J

Yeah I’m on tafenoquine and started disulfiram about a fortnight ago.
It is two pills one day per week, it is new (one mouse trial showed efficacy for babesia) and it’s half life is 14 days so that could be what OP’s doc is talking about. It’s great stuff.

How are you feeling on both of those?

Girlie - I've been going there about 11 months now. This will be my first time seeing Dr. J for a full appointment. He popped in to say hi at my last in person appt with Kim F, but only for 5-10 minutes. I think I am supposed to be going once every 6 months or so. My appointments are 3 months apart. For some reason this last cycle has been really stretched out. I haven't had a phone consult since April.

Kim is great and probably 2nd only to Dr. J. In fact when I called to make an appointment, she was booked up, but Dr J was free, so it sounds like her patients all like her, as do I.

Hello everyone just got out of my Drs visit and yes the drug is called tafenoquine told me take that and he'll se me in a month well see how it goes

Girlie - Disulfiram has been hellish at times. Had to skip two days of 500mg because of what I think are neuroherxes... dissasociation, inconsolable depression, dry eyes, eyes, fatigue, hypersomnolescence, + joint pain and the most painful stabbing chest pain/carditis since I was first infected - something very significant I believe. It brought on a LOT of symptoms of borrelia I'd not had for months. Very powerful. Other than that, I'll put it how a disulfiram 20-day vet on the disulfiram facebook group put it - despite the herxes, potential sides, underneath/below all that, and in moments of reprieve, I feel happier, more energetic, sharper, and overall more capable than I did with what I thought was babesia and Lyme in remission only three or so weeks ago. It's the real deal IMO. My take on this is that there is a persistent inflammatory smog lingering in the body that lingers due to the killing power of the disulfiram, which peaks at times, leading to the herx symptoms mentioned above. But underneath, the burden and recurring damage incurred by persistent borrelial infection is being lifted and this is what the indescribable but readily perceptible of improvement in underlying wellbeing amounts to.

Tafenoquine - Has been an absolute breeze. No herx. Prior to starting my babesia symptoms were sweats, chills, aches after exertion, exercise intolerance, POTS when bad, insomnia when bad, and the most prominent was shortness of breath. Horrible, i'd spend hours each day feeling as if i were having the air squeezed out of me by a giant snake. My heart rate (as measured by a garmin) at rest during these attacks would shoot up to between 80 and 90 and sometimes they'd last for hours. Not anxiety related obviously. Now, three months into tafenoquine I can honestly say the only of the aforementioned symptoms I've had since starting has been the shortness of breath. I haven't had ANYTHING else in months and even that has improved a lot. I actually get symptom free days now and I can exercise lightly again without feeling like I'd been run over by a truck the next day. I measure my shortness of breath attacks in 15 minute lots now and barely do i suffer through more than an hour/day. Also, my heart rate when sedentary fluctuates between 60-75, where it should. The drug is great. It should be first port of call babesia therapy IMO.


Mexlyme - your doc has his finger on the pulse. There are only 2 animal studies in the literature examining this drug for babesia. Good luck on it! Keep us updated!

That’s great that it’s helping you! Can you share is it two pills, two days in a row? And then what? Will you repeat this treatment every month?

Girlie no i didnt herx on tafenoquine but i did feel like it fighting with somthing in my body i felt some pulsing pain in the back of my head then in my testicals then it went away and so did alot of simptoms and with mepron well i did herx a little but i honestly think it wasnt doing much for me
