So I will address my son and daughter separately. My oldest was a more complicated case, so I will save her story for another time.
Celine, at the age of 3 was diagnosed with Lyme. I brought her to a pseudo lyme literate Dr in the city who helped her tremendously. He put her on amoxicillin, fish oil, probiotics, and coq10 for 3 months, and AL complex for 9 months. We assumed she only had lyme. But then maybe a year later, she started having Bart rashes on her back and she started wetting her bed again. She also was getting sick a lot. So I did my own research and put her on the following:
Cat's Claw, Japanese Knotweed (Buhner herbs), and A Bart. I kept her on that regimen for 9 months and then after that I put her on a very good daily vitamin, and her symptoms never returned. Whenever she gets a cold/cough, I put her on Lauricidin for a week and then she is good to go. She is very strong. No vaccines since before lyme. She got strept throat in the spring, took a round of antibiotics and then was good to go, so I feel safe to say that I did a good job getting lyme and bart under the radar.
My son on the other hand was on the same regimen as my daughter. He was 7 at the time. His situation was a bit different. He was fine for a few years after and then unfortunately last year he got lyme a second time. Thank goodness he noticed the bull's eye and thank goodness he even got a bull's eye, because I never would have known. That night he threw up, had a low grade fever. I was upset, and said here we go again, but I got him on doxycycline (he was 12 last year), and kept him on it for 3 months. Then I put him on cat's claw, JKW and CSA (also a buhner herb). I put him on CSA bc he and my older daughter were having issues with MRSA on and off last year, and I cured the MRSA by giving my oldest CSA. Plus I didn't think he had Bart, but you never can tell.....
He was totally and completely fine, until I decided to stop the herbs 6 months in. Don't know whether it was a mistake or coincidence bc that was the same time his puberty changes set in. So he may have had a set back anyway, I am not sure. He was also hiding the vitamins I thought I was giving him, bc he hated the taste (even though they were pill form, they left a pretty bad aftertaste). He got sick So much after that. Double ear infection, strept throat, random fevers, etc. So I put him back on the herbs again, his temp went back to normal, but then he started spilling out the herbs!!! I can't win with this kid. So just recently he started getting low grade fevers again. HE is not being compliant and it is getting me really angry!! However he is complaining about his stomach all of the time. He says the herbs and vitamins are making it upset. So I decided to take him back to the Dr in the city that took care of him when he initially had lyme and recommended a bunch of probiotics and mucusal healing tablets, which he is very willing to take bc his stomach bothers him so much. He also complains of a sore throat. He does complain about his knees hurting on occasion and he pulled a muscle in the springtime from just running, so I know he is not in the clear. He also has pretty bad seasonal allergies, and I just discovered he is allergic to our cat, so that is keeping him from recovering fully. I honestly don't know what to do about the cat, the kids love her, but its not a good situation for my son's health!!!
Before I tell you what I am going to do with my son at this point - I want you to understand my method of thinking on this, and it will help guide you as to what to do with your kids.
First and foremost, we have to support the immune system. So the Cat's claw and JKW and the vitamins are good for that. You could also add in extra vitamin C and Elderberry syrup if you want to - I have done that on occasion. Probiotics are a must to keep the gut flora stable. Then you have to add in a anti-bacterial/viral type herb. So with my daughter I added Abart, with my son I added CSA. The Abart was enough for my daughter, but the CSA was obviously not enough for my son, bc he keeps falling back. Except I think it took care of the MRSA ( I hope!)
The trick here is, you know how everyone says you have to treat 6 weeks beyond the last symptom? Well I treated way past that, but these are not antibiotics, so its different. The other trick is this, my kids were pretty much symptom free about 6-8 weeks after I started their regimens. That told me it was the right combo. So they I kept them on that regimen for several months after. If Celine for example, was still wetting her bed after I started her regimen, I would have switched it up.
So Yogi, since your daughter still has issues, she should not be on the same herbs for such a long period of time, bc that means it is not working. However, I don't see her on any immune support, unless you just didn't mention it. I would highly recommend you adding the cat's claw and JKW to her regimen as well as a good vitamin and probiotic. Lmk if you are comfortable with this idea. Email me and I can help you plan it all out.
looking ahead - teasel is excellent, but teasel pulls the bacteria out of the joints, so you need something there to kill it off when it does. He also needs tremendous immune support. IMO, he is having trouble gaining weight bc his body is working so hard at keeping the disease at bay (burning tons of calories) which explains why most of his symptoms have resolved. Email me as well and I will be glad to help you put something together for him. Or, just write on here for everyone else to read it, I don't mind, same with you Yogi - we can do it all here or on email.
So last but not least, here is my plan for my son. I am going to switch up his probiotics and make sure I switch them up every couple of weeks (my bad for not doing that initially), then give him the mucosal healing tabs, and hope his stomach settles down. All the while I will make sure he continues to take his vitamins, and add elderberry and extra vitamin C to the mix. I am also giving him Coq10. I am then going to put him on antiviral/bacterials and rotate them. Lauricidin is first, then colloidal silver, then oil of oregano. I will use my judgement, planning to keep him on each of them for 6 weeks at a clip. And I am hoping as he takes the meds for his stomach, I will be able to reintroduce the cat's claw and JKW - that stuff is really great, it helped my older daughter as well. Depending on how he does, I will see if he needs CSA again, or maybe I will give him ABart. It all depends on his symptoms and how well he does.
My Dr always said - do not stay on the same regimen for more than 6-8 weeks bc lyme goes in cycles and if you are on the same regimen and nothing is changing, the most important thing to do is to switch it up. Like for me, I started with doxy twice a day, then changed it to three times a day, then the next month 2 tabs twice a day, then the next month she added Zithromax. So the actual meds don't have to be switched constantly so as long as the doses continue to go up.
I hope I made some sense here, I haven't written about this topic in a long time. I tried my best to be as clear as I could. Please, please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have ok? I am finally settled, I have a lot of free time, I am not working, and my hand feels ok, so it doesn't hurt to type anymore!!!
