Is there anyone here from Canada? My mom has Lyme disease and has spent over $16,000. The doctor who prescribed the antibiotics (she had to go to a private clinic in Canada with a lyme literate doctor, as her family doctor would not even acknowledge that she had Lyme disease and was no help at all.) The doctor at the private clinic would not sign anything so she could have reduced rate when buying the prescriptions he prescribed, said he was too busy and didn't have time. My question is, is there any way to get reimbursed for the costs? Thanks

I’m on the west coast (BC) - where are you?

I have blue cross for prescriptions.

I didnt know a dr can get you a discount on prescription meds by signing a form?

If there are enough medical expenses - she can claim the drug costs on her income tax... if shes still working... or her husband can.

Edit: I looked back through your previous posts and see that she is 72 so not working....

I am in southern Ontario, no she is retired now so can't claim medical expenses. Yes, the doctor can fill out the form for the Trillium Fund, it will help with medical prescription costs. Not sure it is Ontario only.

We don’t have that here in BC.

It’s prob similar to our Pharnacare we have for seniors.

Can you call the Dr office who prescribed them and see if he has time now to sign for them?

Or is he not wanting to “advertise” that he prescribes all those abx for Lyme disease?? Doesn’t want to be investigated?

No, the doctor who prescribed the antibiotics would not sign any Trillium forms and he is so high powered with a big ego. Didn't even send a letter to her family doctor stating what his final conclusion was or treatment protocol and why.

$16,000 is way too much. She can see an LLMD in the States and get Amoxicillin or Doxycycline for almost free with a Walgreens membership.

Or cheaper to just fly to Mexico and have a vacation and come back with whatever she wants. Just claim, if they care to ask at the border, that it is a 3 month supply or less and that she has been prescribed by a doctor.

For $16,000 she can see a LLMD in the US - and even return for a few more visits!

How long has she been in treatment - just wondering how many visits and prescriptions the $16,000 covered.

She was in treatment for 9 months with this doctor and it included 2 free visits and she had to pay for the third visit. He also ordered bloodwork which she had to pay for and the doctor was pushing lots of supplements. Then she had to pay for all the prescriptions at the drug store amounting to almost $600 per month. Now she is seeing a LLND who is much more caring and much better.
