Newly Diagnosed - Band 64 Meaning and Could it be a False Positive?

Hello!

I am a 24 year old female who has been very sick for around four years with terrible gastric symptoms, weight loss (as a result), bizarre neurological experiences, a major uptick in anxiety and panic, and joint pain. It has uprooted my life tremendously and stripped me of the person I once was. After seeing tens of specialists throughout the years (as many of us did before getting our diagnosis), I was told it was all in my head and that nothing was wrong with me – that is, until I found an LLMD about two weeks ago who diagnosed me with Lyme.

I just got back my report (from the Stony Brook Lyme Lab) and was hoping someone could help me decipher the results. I have looked at many sites online (as well as these forums), but cannot find the meaning of band 64.

My Lyme serology was Reactive at 0.168 with the borderline cutoff of 0.106 and the reactive cutoff at 0.133.

IgM: Indeterminate for 41, IgM nonspecific bands were also detected in 64 and 93
IgG: indeterminate for 41

Next, given these results, are false positives for Lyme common? I have been reading that sometimes you can test positively for Lyme but have something else, such as Hepatitis C or EBV. But I know I tested for 93, which is Lyme specific, so is that possible in this case?

I am currently pursuing a three month herbal treatment with monthly IV's of Colloidal Silver, which will hopefully bring me to testing nonreactive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you smile

Welcome to our community! I'm so glad you found us.

An IgM result means that you have an active infection. It once was thought to mean an 'early' infection, but has since been revised. IgG means that the infection is at a later stage.

The more +'s you have beside a number, the stronger the reaction.

IND means indeterminate - not negative, but not quite strong enough to be "fully positive". But it means that you reacted on those bands and should be considered, especially when they are Lyme specific bands.

I'm glad you found a doctor to treat you. Don't pay too much attention to blood results. They are a toolbox in a doctors kit but not 100% certainty. Focus each day on how you feel. As you begin this journey I HIGHLY recommend keeping a daily journal of symptoms and medications. That can really help you track your progress and see what is working for you.

So sorry that you've had symptoms for 4 years and not one medical professional helped you get a diagnosis.

Looking at your results...band 93 is considered specific to lyme. It's listed in the Igenex Immunoblot as one of two bands to produce a positive results.

Three months herbal treatment after years of sickness - is unlikely to be enough treatment.
And...retesting won't really tell you much. Many false negatives with these tests.
Plus, we can continue to produce antibodies after we're healed...so a positive won't necessarily mean anything either.


The good news is you are treating now.....and of course you found your way here! Lots of support and knowledge on this forum.

@kristen93 Can I ask if you'd had any success treating based on your results and symptoms? I too have weird neurological stuff, had an EM rash but never saw tick or bullseye, then slew of Lyme symptoms. The worst of the Neuro stuff has been internal tremors in arm and head (fortunately not frequently) upon waking or sleeping. Also feel a bit off kilter balance wise when bending head down and going back up. I hope you are doing better now. I am on Doxy, lots of supplements, tinctures but still have symptoms.
