Upcoming surgery and Lyme

My mom has to have a knee replacement. It is not looking like it will be until sometime in March or April. If she still has Lyme symptoms, is it okay to go ahead with the surgery? The orthopedic surgeon knows that she has Lyme disease/bart/bab. but doesn't know much about Lyme disease, either does cardiologist who did echo, which showed minor heart damage to the valves from Lyme. Is there any way that the Lyme bacteria or other co-infections will get into the joints even more after the surgery or will this surgery cause a flare-up? Both knees are sore since tick bit over 2 yrs ago, the knee that has to be replaced is more sore than the other. (She knew she had to have a knee replacement in the future before the tick bite). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have limited experience in this matter, however my ACL reconstruction surgery 10 years ago reactivated Lyme disease after 30 of being mostly symptom free.

Therefore, I would agree with Girlie that the surgery could bring a flare in her symptoms. Is her Lyme treatment active right now? Does she take antibiotics? If not, maybe she should start the treatment with antibiotics before surgery and continue after the recovery process.

I hope that I make sense because my brain doesn't cooperate recently.

Yikes! She is taking herbals only from a LLND. I was wondering if a surgery would affect things, looks like it may. She'll have to discuss with the LLND when she talks to her next. She has been on Lyme treatment for about 18 months, first antibiotics for 9 months, then a lapse (long story) and now herbals for the past 3 months. She is certainly better than she was 2 yrs ago. Night sweats are almost gone and not short of breath anymore, no more cough, leg tremors are subsiding slowly, but still having pain. Thanks everyone.
