Anyone else with lingering low white counts/low neutrophils?

I’ve struggled with this, especially with IV antibiotics. My llmd put me on Oceana brand shark liver oil and it works a treat at getting those neutrophils up. Mine kept dropping dangerously low. Labs are the proof that it worked for me.

Same for me. Been this way for years, even before I knew I had Lyme. Even went to see a hematologist at NYU about it, she was baffled


Turns out I have Lyme, and now it makes sense. One of the defenses of Lyme is to weaken the immune system. Typically when there’s an infection the first response is a Th1 cell mediated response. I saw a paper which says they found that the Th1 response was suppressed in chronic Lyme patients. Which way the causality runs I’m not sure I.e. do you become one of the 10% of the people who gets chronic Lyme because your immune system is already weak, or does the Lyme cause the immune system to weaken. My guess is probably the latter.

My blood counts have been all over the place. When I feel better, the reds and whites improve. A month ago and the previous 6-8 months, white blood counts were lowest they have been. Low neutrophils also. Low was 2.3 but stayed at 2.5 much of the time. Now back to low side of normal, as are red blood cells.

It doesn't seem to be related to antibiotics, in my case. But they definitely go up in times of feeling a bit better. Whites have been worse than reds. Have had two bone marrow biopsies and five blood smears since 2012. All normal.

And I haven't a clue, just like everything else . It no longer worries me, though.
