Sorry I took so long to answer your question.
According to Dr. Shoemaker, mold toxins will continue to recirculate in the body via the hepatic loop with the bile (think I said that right??). Particularly if you have one of the HLA-DR susceptible genetic haplotypes. He uses Cholestyramine, a bile sequestrant, to bind the toxins released in the bile. This treatment follows removal from exposure.
Other doctors (like Brewer) believe mold colonizes in the sinuses and/or gut during mold exposure (I believe with immune susceptible people). This creates an internal mold infection that persists after exposure is removed. These doctors use Rx antifungals to treat the internal mold. I am not aware of any scientific validation of this theory other than what is published on Aspergillosis of the lungs.
Shoemaker blasted Brewer and Mayo for treating mold in the sinuses with antifungals, which he claims caused antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria to form (MARCONS).
Knowing all that makes me nervous about taking Rx antifungals, for fear they will cause worse dysbiosis in the microbiome in the long run. That said, they do seem to help my symptoms.
I have not kept a clean diet, though, and that worries me, too. I was eating sweets the week before and after Christmas. My gut started hurting again and I have a coated tongue. I got back on track somewhat in the last week and feel better. I need to do a lot better with diet. It’s just so hard with the living situation. Diet’s hard for me, anyway. I don’t know how all these people do it.
