Here's what I copied from tax code in 2015
From IRS Publication 502, Medical and Dental Expenses for use in preparing 2015 returns.
Page 17: Nutritional Supplements
"You can't include in medical expenses the cost of nutritional supplements, vitamins, herbal supplements, “natural medicines,” etc. unless they are recommended by a medical practitioner as treatment for a specific medical condition diagnosed by a physician. Otherwise, these items are taken to maintain your ordinary good health, and aren't for medical care."
Here's the link to the whole topic from 2016. It was bit controversial back then.

I've been doing it for a long time, but like I said, I keep good records and receipts, and have an LLMD that will attest that she requires the supplement for lyme treatment. In my state we are not as paranoid about
outing LLMDs like most folks here in the forum. Anything an MD prescribed for Lyme treatment here in RI must be paid by insurance companies within each individuals policy coverage. It's a state law.
