What is the purpose of cycling?

I have heard of people cycling antibiotics. Do people do this with herbals also? What is the purpose and how long do people usually go off antibiotics and how often? Thanks.

It’s not usually done with herbs - unless you’re herxing - then you wouid take a break.
Purpose:
it allows you to take more abx - I am currently on three abx at one time (actually 4 on one day ).
On the off days it allows your immune system to kick in (hopefully)
On the days off, it also allows you to recover/detox
I’m with the J clinic and I’ve been on a few different pulsing schedules.
2 weeks on (mon to Friday week 1 and M/T/W week 2) with two weeks off.
I’m now on M/W/Th/F one week followed by three weeks off.
This is the Maintenance protocol.
The immune system is supposed to kick in on the three weeks off.

I've tried it with minocycline and cefdinir. One day on, one day off. I would herx the day after I took it. I'm not sure if it's really any better than taking it continuously.

With valproate and disulfiram, I would do 2-4 weeks on, then a month off. I didn't initially plan to do it that way, but i stopped after a few weeks because the herx and side effects were pretty intense. These drugs have a very long half life and can take a month or more to clear out of your system.

When a doctor chooses to cycle the main purpose is to sneak up on the pathogen in a sense. Lyme goes into hiding so when you take a break they come back out and you hit it again. The lifestyle of Lyme-there are different strains so it varies some. Lymes lifecycle is longer than the common coinfections we see.

If you do this with some of the coinfections that replicate quickly it’s not effective because when you stop it allows it to replicate more on the days off, so it’s only effective for slow replicating infections.

Like mentioned above some doctors choose to cycle to give the body breaks too/recover some, etc. sone will cycle different antibiotics too.

But it is effective - Dr J’s pulsed protocols are used for the coinfections too.

But it is effective - Dr J’s pulsed protocols are used for the coinfections too.

I read that it depends on the replication cycle. I’ll have to find that article. I guess it depends how they do it.

I’ll have to read Dr. J’s. Haven’t read his protocols. I do have friends that are having pulsed treatments. They tried it on me for a little bit and my Bartonella symptoms seemed to go crazy. Maybe this was just a coincidence...?

Or had you not cleared Babesia yet?
Not sure.
But Dr J’s methods do work.
Does he get 100% of his patients well? No... he even admits that- but he does say that many more would get well if they stuck it out longer.

Do you mean Jemsek? I just read a little bit. It looks like he cycles meds according to the pathogens lifecycle. So for Lyme you could have longer gaps then some of the faster replicating Coinfections.

I was never diagnosed with babesia. I think I possibly have it. After reading Cameron’s description of coinfections and how babesia is often missed on his website. It also listed some vague symptoms I have. According to his website and what he says he would treat according to my symptoms.

Right now I’m on herbs that cover Lyme and the major coinfections.

I was diagnosed with Lyme and Bartonella. Plus like a lot of people with chronic Lyme I had other infections too, positive EBV x 2 stains, mycoplasma pneumonia, yeast etc.

One of my friends is doing ceftin, biaxin, and one other. She swears by ceftin. Plus some herbs supplements etc. She’s improved a lot. Antibiotics don’t affect her as much as they affect me. I don’t do well with long term antibiotics.

No, the cycles - breaks are pretty much the same for the three B’s.

I ran out of room in my signature line... lol
I first treated with a LLND closer to home (west coast Canada) He treated me for lyme and Bart.
I then learned he wasn’t licensed to prescribe the antimalarials - Mepron and malarone (maybe others as well) for Babesia.This is after he dodged my questions on Babesia treatment. All he gave me was Artesunate for Babs.
I lost quite a few symptoms treating bart and lyme but then plateaued,
He didn’t have any ideas and seemed like he had given up on me. (NOT a good feeling)
Then I self treated for over a year -
Finally in 2018 I decided to go to the J clinic.
My only regret is not going to Dr J in the first place.
I am now taking abx 4 days per month. It’s the Maintenance stage.

Oh ok. How much does he typically cost? Isn't he in DC, if I’m thinking of the right doctor. I decided to try Zhangs protocol after talking to a patient of his and doing some research. Like everyone it’s not 100%. There’s a guy/girl on one of these feeds who appears to be herxing a lot from it.

After I spoke to a lady on the phone she said that my main symptoms appear to be Lyme and Bartonella. She said that doesn’t mean I don’t have Babesia. They’re treating off of the most debilitating symptoms. 🤞🙏 it’s a little pricey, but if you look at apts, supplements, labs, with an LLMD they’re actually more affordable. I get monthly phone consultations too. I was told I can stop at any time too if the protocol isn’t working for me.

Dr J’s initial appt is quite expensive - but I’ve seen higher prices with other llmd’s.
The initial appt is 3-4 hours long.
You save $$ because the appts get further apart as well as less expensive.
I had my initial consult in February/2018
2nd appt (less $$) was 2 months later (April)
3rd appt (less $$ than the 2nd appt was 4 months after the 2nd appt.(August)
4th appt (same cost as 3rd I think)
Was 4 months after the 3rd (December)
5th was end of March, 2019
6th was Sept, 2019
My next one is in March. They’re every 6 months now and I have phone appts for every other one.
They are 6 months apart alternating inperson with phone appts.

Thanks for the information. I’ll keep him in mind if Zhangs protocol doesn’t work. I’m already at the most I can handle right now with Zhangs.

Due to my symptoms I’m barely working part time. Making 1/4 what I used to make. Had to move back home.
