I had this for a couple of months! I googled it and searched around this forum and found nothing. It was so weird and gross and I couldn't figure out what was causing it. At the same time my digestion was really bad. I'm doing herbs, and I thought maybe it was Coptis, which is a new thing I was taking when it started. I thought that maybe I wasn't digesting the Coptis well and it was causing the sweet taste. But Coptis is apparently really bitter so that didn't really add up.
The only thing I found that sort of made sense is that my body was in Ketosis. Apparently that can be a side effect - which sort of tracked because I was eating very few carbs. The past week or 10 days my digestion and bowel movements have been a lot better and the taste finally went away. I also started eating more carbs and fiber. But I also eating zero sugar in any form - barely any fruit. I've been eating a little more fruit but I am still sort of afraid of it - which might be irrational. I don't know.
This is from the web: "Diabetes may also cause a serious complication called diabetic ketoacidosis. This happens when the body cannot use sugar for fuel and begins using fat instead. This causes an acid called ketones to build up in the body. Excess ketones in the body can cause a sweet, fruity smell and taste in the mouth."
