Stopped Biaxin and going backwards

Hi everyone. Started Biaxin back in December for Lyme and Bartonella, and added in Omnicef and Rifampin over the last couple of months. Had to stop Biaxin due to stomach issues a week ago and now I'm back to square one with hip pain that had gone away, bad knee pain and swelling, and severe depression and confusion. Plus my stomach is still messed up. Is this a flare??

Is it possible to have C. diff. without severe diarrhea? The people I know with C. diff. had diarrhea about thirty times per day, including at night. This sounds nothing like C. diff. to me.

I do agree that taking care of your gut is important and could help to resolve a lot of the issues you mentioned. Abx can be so hard on the gut. A good quality probiotic taken at least two hours away from any abx, gut healing herbs (deglycerized licorice, marshmallow, slippery elm), aloe vera juice, digestive bitters and digestive enzymes, probiotic and prebiotic foods, and time-restricted feeding (giving your gut at least 12-16 hours per day with nothing in it) should help get you back on track. You might be doing all of that already, but I thought I'd include some ideas just in case.

If you have persistent symptoms of SIBO or gut dysbiosis, then some strong herbs can help. I used a combination of black walnut, olive leaf, artemisinin, berberine, and wormwood that worked beautifully. Candida is another thing to look into that can mess with the gut, cause joint inflammation, etc.

And as you suspect, sure, you could be having a return of symptoms that the Biaxin might have been keeping in check. Or possibly it's a herx from whatever you most recently added. It's so hard to figure these things out sometimes.... Have you seen any symptoms resolve that have not come back?

Quin...I'm taking probiotics. Green vibrance in the morning and S. Boulardi in the afternoon. The diarrhea isn't severe, so I don't think its cdiff. My mom had that once and hers was very bad. I'm going a few times a day, but something isn't right.

Sarali...thank you for all those tips. My brain fog is so bad right now, so I hope that I can answer everything. I don't take any herbs for my gut...just probiotics. I've never had to use them before, but I think I need to start. I wonder if Candida can cause my nose to run and my body to itch even more. My nose is constantly running now, so I hope it's not the mold rearing its ugly head. So hard to know right now. I was seeing some symptoms resolve but everything has come back now.

Isitlyme…I am taking Zoloft and Klonopin, and I definitely feel them both not working at all. I wish I knew what to do about that because I really want to kill this Bartonella.

Jerryill!!!!!! if I were you I would stop rifampin immediately and ask your doctor for an alternative, there are other abx effective against Bart, Doxycycline, minocycline, tindamax is said to work, zithromax.

Benzos and ssri are contraindicated to take with rifampicin, because rifampicin increases the metabolism of this drugs very fast, and they get out of your system fast and you barely feel the effect of them, if any, once you stop rifabampim you must also wait one week ore more for the interaction to stop because rifampin takes a long to stop inducing the liver.

I'm going through the same thing. I have bad neuropathy in my arms and was taking Minocycline. It was really hitting the neuropathy and no sooner. Cramps, bloating, no diarrhea, but don't want end up w/ that or C-Diff. So quit taking it.

This is despite taking probiotics.

Jerseyjill, you don't have to loose confidence in him, my llmd also suggested rifampin at first, but I was taking benzo also and did my research first and gently said it interfered with my meds, she understood and prescribed me alternatives. I am still with the same llmd and it's a very professional doctor. They simply don't know everything about abx. They are humans and fail, but they can still help us, speak with him and say it interferes with meds, and ask for alternatives, I am taking cefixime, doxy, tinidazole and cistus.

elizka26...so sorry you are going through this as well. This seems to be the nature of things with treatment. You treat one thing, but you get something else instead. Sending you good thoughts.
