Lyme hair loss - Desperately asking for help.

Hi all,

Over the last 2 years, I started losing a chunk of hair on my head.

The strange is that it's only on one side. At least, that's how it's been for 2 years, recently it started progressing to the other side.

I'm worried about going to a dermatologist because I'm afraid that they will just write it off as aging. Especially since it's on the front area of the top of my head, in the corner. The same type of hair loss that men get with aging.

However, literally nobody in my family has any hair loss, so I don't think that's what it is.

I also lost all of my hair on my right calf. This has not happened to my left calf.

I'm asking you for any ideas on what I can do.

I don't have a lot of self esteem to begin with, and the chunk of hair missing on my head is making me very depressed. I'm terrified it will not grow back because it's been two years already.

I really hope some of you might be able to help.

The one "sidedness" is odd and probably warrants investigation- blood flow issues? This would/could be more of an issue beyond hair. The "chunks" vs even thining is odd too.

As far as more average even thinning of hair: supplements for either sex: biotin (pills/ vitamin), and rosemary topical oil.

For guys there is also pumpkin seed oil gel caps and saw palmetto gel caps/caplets - this cancels out whatever it is again (forgot) bio-chemically that marks some males hair a challenge to keep. . And no issues with it like there is with mens Rx "hair growth pills" (bad deal apparently!!).

Low thyroid and adrenal issues/stress can cause overall thinning of hair..........but again, not in specific areas.

Jerseyjill I'm so sorry you're going through the same thing. I really feel for you. I'm going to buy some bulletproof collagen protein and biotin. I'm already taking vitamin C so I got that covered. Thank you so much.

astroman, It's odd isn't it? I took note of the supplements you recommended and am definitely going to try them. I recently started thyroid medication after stopping for a while. The weird thing is that I lost my hair while on thyroid medication 2 years ago. However, this time I'm taking Synthroid instead of Thai Thyroid that I was taking. So who knows, maybe this suits me better. Thank you so much.

saraeli, I definitely think that could be the case. I'm glad you provided me with the name. That way I'm able to ask a dermotologist if that's what it is. I just have to gain the courage to go. Thank you so much.

I was thinking thyroid but I apologize that I dont know more conclusively than that.

I will, however, mention something that I've seen pop up often in research lately. I know it sounds odd but they found olfactory sensors in our scalp that respond to artificial sandalwood scent. Only artificial, not natural. I have no idea why this is. However, it stimulates new follicle growth, for real.

I know this is merely a bandaid but it's all I can offer on the subject. I hope you find your definitive answer soon
