The best antibiotics for Bartonella

Hi .Can someone tell me what’s the best antibiotic for Bartonella.I wanted to try one more before going to herbs.I am in the process of trying to get a new llmd but it’s slow due to the pandemic but I have submitted new patient forms but havent gotten an appt yet.I treated for 1 year and have not herxed once.The only thing resolved was night sweats. No better or worse.I have never felt bad enough to lay down or be in the bed thank God.I think Bart is my problem some numbness and tingling,twitching,brain stuff and ear popping on and off.All the things I have already taken Zithromax,cefdinir,malarone,diflucan,Biaxin,rifampin,dapsone,disulfiram,flagyl,coartem.All of this and no herx at all .same symptoms above remain except for night sweats.Im worried why isn’t anything touching these symptoms.The new facility I am trying to get into offer the SOT for Lyme so I am thinking about that.my old llmd don’t know she is fired .she have me on just disulfiram indefinitely for Bartonella but I stopped taking because I took it for 5 months already and I told her it’s not doing anything but she will not listen .Also I am taking houttuynia and also no herx or reaction.

The most effective ones are the fluoroquinolones - Cipro / Levaquin

But not everyone wants to take the risk of the side effects with that class.

You could try Rifabutin. Seems to be stronger than rifampin

Rifampin paired with minocycline is the first tier (can use doxy but rif decreases blood levels of doxy)

Rifampin plus a macrolide (azothromtyicin)

Bactrim DS plus doxy/Mino

Cipro (or levaquin) but as girlie said they carry the highest risk of side effects (tendinopathy)

Rifampin is a very tough drug for some so after I couldn’t tolerate it anymore I used a combo from a well known doc in CT Diflucan plus Tetracycline 2 weeks on 2 weeks off that worked beautifully.

These other folks know much much more about pharma than I do, but is it odd that familymatters has seen zero change (no improvement, no herxing) from that very long list of drugs? Is it common for someone to have Bartonella that does not respond in any way to "Zithromax,cefdinir,malarone,diflucan,Biaxin,rifampin,dapsone,disulfiram,flagyl,coartem" and somehow does respond to the other drugs suggested? I'm not trying to make a point here, just genuinely asking. I would have assumed that Bartonella was not the issue and moved on to mold or other concerns.

saraeli - you're right most people do respond, yes.. No herxing, no improvement...is not the norm.

Sometimes bart is stubborn because Babesia hasn't been taken care of (per my LLMD Dr. J in DC)
It's hard to say - not knowing all the details...ie. was the malarone for babesia taken first - ie prior to the bart meds...and how long was she on the Malarone. Night sweats did resolve - maybe longer on the malarone would have helped?
And how long did familymatters take the Rifampin.

But not herxing at all is not the norm - these drugs are not mild.

M R just put out a new update on his Bart treatment protocol based on new studies I think. Pharma and herbal I think ... haven't read. Just got an email..

Hi Saraeli.Thats what I said also.I kept asking my llmd doc and she said everybody do not herx.Honestly I don’t know what is going on with me.I just know I am overwhelmed and wondering why hasn’t I herxed or had more improvement.Thats why I am trying to change docs.The doctor there is not a md but a naturopath but do blood work at medical lab diagnostics in New Jersey to try and determine exactly what you have.The center has alot of success stories including the SOT treatment.It is located in GA.Can mold cause these symptoms I mentioned above?If so maybe I can try to treat it myself?With what?Since the center in GA is taking so long to get back with me I did find a master herbalist in my area that says she have worked with several Lyme patients and would like to help me.I would like to have my bloodwork done first though.My llmd acted like it was normal where I was as for treatment.I am new to this and I just didn’t know at the time as for how long it should be before seeing improvement because she never explains anything at appt just use a whole hour asking you about your symptoms and just typing.quote="saraeli"]These other folks know much much more about pharma than I do, but is it odd that familymatters has seen zero change (no improvement, no herxing) from that very long list of drugs? The symptoms you mention all can be caused by mold, yes - night sweats, twitching, nervous system issues, zap sensations, dizziness, numbness, tingling, cognitive issues and brain fog, sinus issues (including ears), etc. Mold and Bartonella can be indistinguishable in terms of symptoms. Neil Nathan's book Toxic is a great resource for this topic. The first step toward treating mold is stopping the exposure; this sometimes means moving or mold remediation, so finding the source of exposure is crucial. No progress will be made as long as you're still being exposed. Once the exposure stops, then people treat using binders, detox methods, and supportive supplements and practices to heal the immune and nervous systems. Some require internal anti-fungal treatment and/or nasal sprays, but not all. A mycotoxin urine test (like from Great Plains lab) is helpful for figuring out which mycotoxins are in your system, and an ERMI dust sample test from Mycometrics is a good way to determine what you're being exposed to in your home. Some doctors also order tests that look for CIRS, chronic inflammatory response syndrome, which often is cause by mold. These tests include VIP, MMP-9, VEGF, c4a, ADH, and others.

I don't mean to derail your Bartonella post, just providing a little more information in case it's ever helpful.
