Greetings! I was hoping someone with a keen eye can tell me if this is a tick bite? I have Lyme but have never witnessed a physical bite or its immediate effects thereafter. This belongs to my friend’s son. He was bitten by something in the backyard and they all assumed it was a mosquito bite. He continuously scratched the itch and a scab formed. The surrounding tissue was inflamed and raised. Eventually scab fell off and left a crater in the skin. Thing is, the red ring didn’t really show till about
9 days after the fact. I have questioned if the red ring is from swelling or if it truly is the bullseye formation. He was put on antibiotics and is currently a week in and day after starting the abx course, the swelling reduced.

So is this a case of Lyme or just a mosquito bite gone wrong? Should there be a distinct mark where the tick has burrowed? Is abx early on a successful treatment? I believe he was put on amoxicillin due to possibly some sensitivity. I know other antibiotics are a more appropriate treatment but that was the counsel from the doctor who is probably not Lyme versed. Thank you for the input and hopefully I can put my friends mind at ease.
