I've just started have a lot of tendon pain, tons of knots in my legs and my right hip joint is crazy stiff. How much collagen power do you take a day? 2 tablespoons or do you do more?
I didn't understand that lyme destroys collagen. Is that through the sustained inflammation?
Yes I take 2 tablespoons a day of collagen powder, I put it in my coffee or a smoothie. When I first started using it I had severe tendonitis in my foot, and I think I took 4 tbsp a day then, 2 in the morning and 2 at night. I didn't even know I had Lyme then and I thought I just had tendonitis from running -- I had it for 2 years and tried everything and could not get rid of it (saw 3 doctors for it). After a month of taking collagen every day my tendonitis was almost completely healed, which blew my mind. Now looking back on it I'm sure the Lyme had something to do with all my constant running injuries.
Buhner's book says:Restoring collagenous structures."Most of the damage the body experiences during infection occurs because the bacteria break down collagenous structures for food. The more they are broken down, the more severe the symptoms become. Restoring the body's collagenous structures help reverse or decrease many of the organisms' impacts on the body."
He recommends gelatin, bone broth, and Kudzu (an herb, I'm guessing)
(page 210, Chapter 8 "The Core Protocol")
Also on pg 214 he recommends Great Lakes gelatin powder: "I prefer the pork variety but any variety will work." He only recommends 1 tbsp a day.
I personally use the green canister, which is beef gelatin. He also recommends Vit C, 1,000-3,000mg daily. I haven't been taking any, I probably should. And Selenium 200mcg daily. Hmm, I don't take that either. You could also drink bone broth.
