Doxy Re-dose after vomiting???

Hello,

Recently had a positive blood test for Lyme.

Doctor currently has me on a prescription of 100mg doxycycline hyclate twice a day for 4 weeks.

My question is if I take the pill in the morning and vomit 30 mins later, should I retake another dose?

My concern is that it didn’t have time to fully absorb in the stomach before vomiting.
Also, if I take another dose, it is one less dose I have in the future.

I think I’m going to start taking the pill with a slice of toast instead of on an empty stomach.

Hello lymepanic - welcome!

Is this an acute infection - ie you’ve had lyme for a few weeks?
If not - you need to find a LLMD or LLND for proper treatment.

Doxy is one of the abx that is very hard on the GI
I wouid eat some food, take to doxy and finish my meal... ie sandwich the doxy.
Empty stomach is too harsh

I wouldn’t be concerned about taking another dose at this point - just take your second dose of the day at the appropriate time.

This is a relatively new infection.
I can’t pinpoint when the tick bite happened, however initial symptoms showed up around July 2nd. Doxy was started on July 15th.
It took longer than normal to seek Lyme diagnosis because the symptoms were confused with Covid symptoms which were tested for on the July 8th. Just received a negative Covid test.

Any advice you have to give is greatly appreciated.

You will need to treat until symptom free PLUS an additional few weeks.
If you don’t have enough antibiotics to do that - see if you can get more - maybe from another dr?
If not you should find a LLMD asap so you can get more antibiotics.

When caught early - your chances of remission are great - you do not want this to become a chronic infection.

Do you have any suggestions for a LLMD?

I have researched a few local to me (York, Pa / Zip code 17402).
I’m not sure if I am able to state their names on this forum.
I could PM you with their names.

I do have a list of llmd’s but no personal experience with them except for the one I see in DC

You can email me their names and I can see if I have info on them.

You should also start a new thread: “Looking for LLMD in/near _____”
(Fill in the blank with your location)

When you call the LLMD office - tell them it’s a recent infection and need to have an appt ASAP.. so you can continue treatment without a break.

Doxycicline monohidrat is more gentle on the stomach. Anyway always take with food.

Hi Lymepanic, I'm currently on doxy and take it with 15-20 oz of room temp water. I am much more likely to vomit if the doxy doesn't get down in my gut fast. When I drank 8 oz of water for example I had more problems. Hope it helps.

I think it was due to the meds being taken then laying back down.

Since then, another doxy has been taken with a little bit of granola bar and apple eaten just before taking the pill. Pill was taken with around 16-20 oz of water. Had no issues or any nausea.

I think the problem was laying down right after taking it.

The actual prescribed antibiotic is

Doxycycline Hyclate

As just mentioned above, the antibiotic was recently taken with a granola bar and some apple slices. Moving forward will definitely make sure pill is taken with some food in the stomach. Just don’t want to over eat prior and the antibiotic not be absorbed as much or as effectively.
