Lena,
I did Buhner’s protocol. I started out with Japanese knotweed (powder), skullcap/danshen combo, then cat’s claw (powder). I was afraid to add other antimicrobials for a few months because I herxed so much on tiny doses of Japanese knotweed and cat’s claw. I did push hard to increase JPK, very slowly. While Buhner described JPK as anti-inflammatory, I found it increased my joint stiffness, but I stuck with it. Now, 3 years later I take 2 tsp of JPK powder 2x day.
Another forum member urged me that I wouldn’t get better just taking the supportive stuff and that the antimicrobials were necessary. That was the push I needed to test out houttuynia and sida acuta. While I did have some new, strange symptoms when starting houtty and sida (like electrical pains shooting through my head and jerking in my legs), they also started helping old symptoms. Houtty, in particular, I credit with dealing with long standing stiffness in the small joints of my fingers that I had had continuously for a couple of years by that point.
I think I started houtty and sida at 2 drops and never got much higher. I stopped both in the last couple of months after running out and haven’t restarted yet. I think 12-15 drops was as high as I ever went. I laid low on a maintenance level for a long time, but I was in mold exposure and dealing with that toxicity. Because of that, my body couldn’t handle much die-off at all, so I tried to keep myself stable.
Keep asking questions and search the forum for old posts, too. When I came here in 2017, there were many on Buhner’s protocols at that time. Dr. Rawls and Real Food Rebel also recovered using Buhner’s protocols. Their stories and websites gave me the courage to choose that path for my treatment and have lots of encouraging and very helpful information.
