Hi BlueRidgeDave
Sorry to hear of your spine issues. For sure, spine issues are very debilitating and like so many diseases can take away all your joy. When you can’t tie your shoes because of the pain, life is difficult. Getting healed is a long process but it is possible!
You said “Has anyone on the forum had any similar spinal problems? Yes I did, here is the Readers Digest version of my story:
For most of my adult life I had frequent back outages that would lay me up for days and weeks. Around age of 52 my spine collapsed while on a business trip. When I managed to get back to the states, I had complete work ups at two top spinal centers. Their x-rays and MRI’s indicated multiple levels of Degenerative Disk Disease. The worst area was SI and L5 and L4. Both surgeons recommend 3 to 4 levels of fusion, front and back with stabilization bars installed. I was in much pain and could hardly walk, so I considered proceeding with the surgery. This surgery is major and takes months to recover. In fact it scared me so deeply I could not sign the orders and backed out. I conducted massive research on DDD and decided to go the holistic approach. I worked at it very hard for the next two years. By age 54 I was better, like 50% improved. After four years I was 70%. After 10 years 80%. My current age is 68 and my back is a solid 90%. I can bike, bowl, walk 8 miles, light runs, work and play ETC without fear or to many restrictions. Although, I have to be careful not to overdue things or compress my spine with any weights over 40 lbs, I don’t think about it much at all these days.
Ten years before the DDD problem (about age 42) I came down with CFS. I was so sick and in terrible physical shape. The extrema exhaustion of CFC had me out of commission for years. This included major depression and panic disorders. During this ordeal, I learned how to support my body and the healing process. I got well and over time became 100% healed of CFC.
At age 66 I was Dx’ed with Lyme. Had so many symptoms, problems and pain that I lost count of them. No surprise as I lived next to the forest and spent lots of time walking trails. Also, I had dogs. Ticks for me were always present. In a typical year I would incur on average 20 bites. No kidding, do the math, 20 bites a year times 30 years is 600 possible Lyme exposures. Never had any symptoms until age 66 (or so I foolishly believed). As it turns out, I had chronic Lyme. Now I understand the pattern and have connected the dots. I strongly believe the CFC and DDD had Lyme involvement. Can’t say for sure Lyme was the root cause, but we all know how Lyme makes every problem you have much much worse.
Now I am 68 and close to 100% recovered from Lyme and it feels great to be symptom free and back to my old self. The active infection is gone. For the next year I will work on repairing the residual damage from Lyme and co-infections. The same approach was used to get over all three nasty diseases. For me, there was no single bullet solution. Results came from the application of at least a 100 healing modalities being employed. Obviously, not all at one time, LOL. This included, but not limited to: an apple a day, stress reduction, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, arobic and weight exercise, swimming 3 x a week, diet, supplements, spiritual pursuits, juicing, correcting sleep, strong vegetable based diet, fasting, PH adjustments, herbs, long walks in nature, air and sun, pure water, removing every chemical from my house, floatation tank treatments, mostly organic food, reaching proper weight, not drinking, getting off Statins, joining support groups and on and on and on. Most important, taking 100% ownership of my health and believing the results will come.
