Can’t get rid of Babs. Underlying issues?

I have been treating Babs with Mepron/Biaxin Combo for 6 months now. When I started I was indeterminate, 3 months later still indeterminate, another 3 months and now I am positive? What is going on? My Lyme Dr said it should have been gone now. Am I properly not absorbing the medication?

I have been experiencing major gi problems lately. Constipation, tight stomach and feeling full. There have been times recently after I eat I feel like I’m dying! Fill insanely full, stomach is tight, feeling faint and confusion, increased heart rate, lots of gas.

I wish I could get a proper answer from my Dr. but I’m pretty sure he is narrow minded.

Are you using antibody tests to measure progress? Unfortunately that does not work. Once you have many diseases, your body may make antibodies to them for the rest of your life. In fact, when your immune system is working well, you might make MORE antibodies to infections you have or have had. This is why tick-borne infections require clinical diagnosis, and why progress is measured by symptom resolution.

Honestly it's a little troubling that your doctor doesn't know this, and that he doesn't seem to be listening to you. Anyone else you could see? Life is too short to see lackluster doctors. ;)

Your GI issues sound like SIBO. Is that something you have explored? Gut dysbiosis causes those symptoms, whether it be from pathogenic bacteria, Candida, parasites, etc. I know it's so rough to feel like you are being punished for eating!

Well my Dr. is supposed to be one of the best on the West Coast. Does Dr. S ring a bell? He doesn’t believe in mold, parasites, etc. I’ve become so bad that I had to get off the antibiotics. I thought if I stayed on them I’d end up in the hospital.

Yeah you probably have other things stopping you from fighting Babs properly. Other coinfections/Mold/Metals/etc/etc But when you say tests, what tests do you mean?

Have you herxed at all from this treatment?

That sounds like a doctor I would RUN from fast and hard.

Mepron and Biaxin made me herx quite a lot. The combination seemed more effective than either alone. It caused a lot of bilirubin, so I couldn't tell if it was killing bartonella or babesia.

I herxed even more taking valproate and artemisinin with it. There haven't been any studies of valproate with babesia, but it is known to inhibit toxoplasma, which is a related type of parasite. Whatever it killed, it sure made me herx.

Constipation and gas seems more like HPA dysfunction disrupting your bowels. Have you tried taking hydrocortisone?
