Abdominal Pain associated with Lyme Disease

Hello, so I recently was tested for Lyme disease and got a positive IGM test back. It started as abdominal pain below my left side rib, and slowly moved to the other side then down to my lower back and pelvis. During this time I was having on and off sore throat, phlegm, weird sensations on my face, burning while peeing, joint pain, rib pain, ringing in one of my ears, jaw pain. I’m 24 and honestly I’m just getting more and more worried that the abdominal pain or rather pressure is not because of Lyme disease. I know gastritis can cause some of these symptoms and in some cases has been linked to Lyme disease but I don’t know, has anyone else experienced abdominal pain as a primary symptom?

Often can be linked to a parasite or gut dysbiosis

Lyme disease is many diseases - not just Borrelia burgdorferi. It’s Lyme and coinfections. Hard to say which infection is specifically causing the abdominal symptoms.

Yes, I had abdominal pain. My initial symptoms began in 2009. In 2015, I got sick with bronchitis which set off a chain reaction of inflammation that traveled around my body - sinuses, chest cavity, intestines. I had tightness across the ribs, upper back pain, stiffness in the chest wall, shortness of breath, etc.

When it moved lower, my bowels shut down. I had extreme constipation, vice-grip low back pain, gastritis, pain in my upper abdomen left and right, silent reflux, etc.

The worst of it resolved before I knew I had Lyme disease, so I can’t tell which infection specifically caused it or what treatments would be most effective on those particular symptoms.

Are you seeing an LLMD who follows ILADS treatment guidelines?

yes, many of us have these kinds of symptoms.

unfortunately, the exact cause can be elusive

under right rib can be ball bladder or liver issues ( Lyme and co-infections can cause this)

central or slightly left side can be inflamed spleen - again sometimes triggered by Lyme or co-infections

there is also something called costochondritis? spelling - basically inflammation of the chest wall - common in lyme - but relatively harmless

and Bartonella, in particular, can cause swelling in the mesenteric lymph nodes - which are located in the abdomen and can give similar abdominal pain

gastritis often comes along with things like acid reflux, varying symptoms around the time of food intake etc which can help pin it down - or some positive response to antacids or Gaviscon type over the counter meds as a trial could aid diagnosis.

Yes I’m seeing an LLMD, I also got a CT scan and Ultra sound and everything looked normal.

Yep. I had abdominal xray and CT scan, hida scan, an endoscopy where they inserted a camera in my esophagus and recorded acid, and a colonoscopy. Said no blockage, no acid reflux in spite of bad silent reflux symptoms, no gallbladder issues, and a perfectly normal colon. Said I had constipation - take some Miralax.

If you have or get constipation, try Natural Calm magnesium supplement. Works for me, although I take megadoses.

Orthomolecular Digestzymes help me with digestion. Apple cider vinegar may help, too.
