How elevated are liver values allowed to be?

Both of mine - alt and ast were in the 140's at their peak. thats when my Dr had me go on a abx break. Healthy range tops out at 40 at the same lab. I used ALA supplement the whole time too.

Im alive and well with both of those in the 20's today.

The two I did are common most for the USA, per many Dr types.

ALK or GGT per Garzie were never mentioned to me. Canada?

yep - when I pay to get mine done the full liver profile offered is as follows - with the lab's normal ranges.
different labs will have slightly different ranges and may use different units in different parts of the world.

optimum is something different again and is typically around the middle third of the labs normal range - or the lower third where the range includes zero

Bilirubin umol/L [0-21]
Serum total protein level g/L [60.0 - 80.0]
Serum albumin level g/L [35.0 - 50.0]
Globulin g/L [19-35]
ALT (10-45IU/L)
ALK Phosphatase (30-130IU/L)
GGT ( 10-71 IU/L)

Ok I called my doctor today, I will get my lab values tomorrow or next week. Thanks again guys.

Also, I'm probably having an MRI done soon to see if my pituitary tumor has grown.
Can't wait for more bad news.

Cignet: Thank you so much for your prayers, they mean a lot to me. I'm so glad to see you're making progress. That's pretty great that you didn't have a strong reaction to abx as before, I know this was a real struggle for you. I'm rooting for you. I think dsf is a really promising drug so I hope it benefits you too. As of several years ago the tumor was too small to remove, so I have that going for me. But the tumor is preventing a lot of my hormones to be made, so I'm on thyroid medication and testosterone replacement therapy. It's also causing me to have low cortisol but the treatment for that (hydrocortisone) makes me gain weight like crazy so that's not an option. Thank you again Cignet.

Girlie: Thank you so much for your comment. I totally understand being done with it all, I feel the same way. I'm in the same boat as you, I never had a re-do on my MRI. Which is a problem because in my case I was advised to have an MRI scan every year. I first discovered it about 6 year ago, more or less (I'm so bad with recalling years and time it's embarrassing, but yeah I think six years). You're so right about the problem with scanning our bodies. It's likely benign like you said! The only problem is that it's throwing off all my hormones because the tumor is preventing hormones from being made. Thanks again for your comment.

Ok guys, finally got my liver values!

I'm currently (temporarily) in Europe, so the values are in metric like Garzie said

Aspartate transaminase: 53 U/l - this one is just 5-10% over the normal range ( 8-48 IU/L)
Alanine Aminotransferase: 166 U/l - this one is more than 300% above the upper end of normal range (10-45 IU/L)
Gamma-glutamyl Transferase: 109 U/l - this one is around 55% above upper end of normal range (10-71 IU/L)

So now the question is, is this bad or good? Hoping someone can help.
These values are 4 days into DSF.

the others would not worry me much - but the ALT of 166 looks a bit too high to manage long term

so i would discuss that one with your LLMD to see what he thinks - may be OK if closely monitored ....

i think in his books Horowitz describes most peoples elevated liver functions being managed to within around double the normal range with supplements like Alpha Lipoic Acid, NAC, and Liposomal Glutathione - maybe milk thistle too - and that when that's done treatment can continue

are you taking any of these ?

Rainy: TUDCA is also a good one for lowering liver enzymes. The one time I had a spike while on DSF I started on it, and subsequent labs had enzymes in normal range. Good luck!

if you have not taken them before - go a little easy with NAC at first
i currently take it at around 1.5g 2x a day - but initially, it caused me to herx at first at even 0.5g 2x day
is known to be antimicrobial to some degree - especially for chlamydia and poss bart / mycoplasma

most people do OK with the others
ala 200-300mg 2x a day
lipsomal glutathione 500mg-1000mg 2x
