Hi!
Thanks for your message. I’ve had an ECG and my lungs checked. Getting enough oxygen and nothing to do with heart or lungs or so it would seem. Got a covid test when I first got symptoms (breathlessness and swollen glands) last year (negative), also tested for glandular fever (negative).
Also been told it’s anxiety however I’m a little doubtful as I have no other symptoms or behaviours that suggest anxiety (could be wrong). The swollen glands in addition to the breathing issues lead me to believe it’s infection over mentality. I know little about things like lymes etc until I discovered this post last night. I don’t even know if my (uk) doctor can actually test for parasitic diseases or infections.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the forum!
Your Dr should be able to test you for tickborne diseases - via Armin Labs.
I will look up the contact info and post it for you.
Here it is
https://arminlabs.comMany forum members get the Elispot and the Immunoblot.@Slth33 - unfortunately, UK GP's ( primary care physicians ) will only test via Borrelia C6 Elisa at a UK central Lab
if that is positive - then they will order a western blot from the same Lab
this test method does not reliably detect the most common species of borrelia that cause lyme in Europe B. Alfezii or B. Garinii and is established to have only 20-50% sensitivity by multiple studies ie misses 50-80% of cases.
( so even if you have lyme your chances of getting a positive test via this method are worse than a coin toss )
UK GP's are essentially clueless about
Lyme and know absolutely nothing about
co-infections or other Lyme-related complications.
They follow guidelines written by their governing organization NICE and those are based on the USA's CDC guidelines which in turn are aligned with the flawed and now withdrawn IDSA guidelines.
The logic is flawed and it's a complete mess.
if you had a known tickbite with a bulls eye rash you may fare slightly better - as that is considered diagnostic in the current guideline.
I did manage to get a UK GP to prescribe 3 months of doxycycline - but only after 2 specialists wrote letters to them saying that they thought it was the best course of action in my case - and I had a positive test result from Armin labs ( which they viewed with suspicion ) - they played pass the parcel with my case as no -one wanted to be the person prescribing long term antibiotics as they can get in trouble for deviating from the (very poor) guidelines.
there are private doctors in the UK who treat Lyme - but have to keep a low profile because of the above situation.
it really is a messed-up situation. i think its ultimately an overflow of the USA controversy - but because there is strong centralized control of NHS primary care - its actually worse in the UK.
lists can be obtained I think through Lymenet.org
You can get tested at Armin without a UK Doctor - see their site for details - via a UK company called IONM - that's what i did.
be prepared to do several tests for Lyme and co-infections
i had some negative Lyme results and some positive - so its worth using several tests for Lyme due to the sensitivity issues that exist with all tests
i was positive on the tick plex test which does include antigens for B. Garinnii and B Alfezii - but not on the tests that use only B. Burgdoferi - i was negative on the Elispot and Elisa - positive ELISA for Mycoplasma Pn.
Armin labs have a symptom checker questionnaire which is used to help you decide which co-infection test to go for
i am happy to help in any way i can as navigating this in the UK was a nightmare
