If the topic upsets people that much, I don't understand why they can't just skip such threads? Usually, COVID are its own threads, so it's easy enough to skip.
Seriously - for ANY topic, just move on if you are bothered by it. It's so easy to just skip. Or, if you have issues with a member, then click on the ignore.
You can NOT control what people do or do not say. But you can control you. We are never all going to fully agree on any topic here, and everybody has differing sensitivities and triggers. Just because a person has issues with a given topic, it shouldn't prevent others from discussing it.
I'm obviously not a fan of censorship in general, and I've voiced, in the past, how troublesome (in my opinion) it has been here on this forum over the years.
I agree, 1000Daisies.
Equal opportunity allows us to avoid a thread if we don't like what is being said there. Equal opportunity also allows us to create a thread if we want to discuss a certain topic.
Equal protection keeps others from silencing me just because they don't like what I say. It also keeps me from silencing others just because I don't like what they are saying.
Perhaps we could practice this?
It may not always be this cut and dry but would most likely help.
