I took some NAC and A la before bed last night and today I have a whopper of a headache. More like a hangover headache. Is this common?

NAC in particular can cause herx like responses - it is apparently antimicrobial to chlamydia pneumoneae and possibly mycoplasma and bart. so that could be what has happened.

i have even seen some MD's write that a trial of NAC can be used to help diagnose such infections.

I have heard that NAC can sometimes cause headaches especially at higher doses. Both NAC and ALA chelate heavy metals, so this might be something to consider as well.

I woke up with a headache after my first dose of NAC. Stupidly, I went ahead and took the 2nd dose. Had a doozy of a herx that day, including nausea. Can’t remember if I finally vomited or not.

Once I understood it was a herx, I went more slowly with one dose per day for about a week. Never had any other issues after that first time. The first 2 weeks, it helped clear my head and cognitive function, but plateaued after that.

As for ALA, I only took it a few weeks and started having weird numbness in the roof of my mouth and center of head. I had amalgams and stopped when that happened.
