Taking the Covid vaccine with Lyme?

I am now debating getting the vaccine.

Getting pressure from my son is part of the reason. His intentions are good but (he is concerned about me getting covid) I’m just concerned about Lyme symptoms returning - due to immune response from vax.

We just got a shipment of Pfizer - I won’t get the AstraZeneca.

I can’t make a decision - which I guess is a decision...,

Girlie, I get it. I have seen in my local Lyme group such dissention. Some want to get the vaccine while others believe it is like walking the plank. People that have been friends for years are now on the outs with one another. It is truly sad. I only know Covid appears to be a lot like Lyme in multiple lingering symptoms and we all know what its like. Have you heard from any Lyme patients that have been vaccinated? I haven't yet. Like everyone I am trying to gather as much info as possible. I agree with you on your AstraZeneca...until more info is available. The variants are adding to mix. We can all hunker down for a while and see what new information comes out and try to make a more informed decision or we can take a calculated risk. Each of us must make our own decision. I only wish the best for each and every one of us.

It doesn’t help that the today’s news reported a death due to blood clots from AstraZeneca - a 52 year old lady. sad

I haven't spoken to him lately....but early on he didn't recommend the vax. One reason based on that there are no longitudinal studies - what are the long-term effects?

A patient of his that I am in contact with mentioned that early on he felt treatments should be looked into....but again that was early on before the vaxes. Not sure if he has that stance anymore.

I have just been offered the AstraZeneca but have decided against it. When you're feeling off balance from chronic health issues it's easy to imagine you will be one of the miniscule percentage of people who get this clotting syndrome. Making it even worse is that these clots have, in some cases, only appeared a couple of weeks after the shot. I just couldn't take the drawn-out angst: every little twinge and pain would be...OMG!! It's a clot! Crazy I know, but there it is. Will wait for Pfizer or Moderna.

I'd take a COVID vaccine if it were an actual vaccine. Not in the traditional sense. This one "trains" your immune system - but isn't it already trained to fight disease? Forget the fact that most of us are so ill with gut problems, poor diet, and bad medicine. How can we fight anything in the state we're in? Constantly bombarded by chemicals. Does the immune system really need training to fight a virus? Even a bad one? They say it's novel, but what do they mean? Outer space? The human body knows how to fight when you give it the right tools. Most of the people I see taking it don't trust their own bodies.

That said, no. I'm not taking it. I kicked Lyme's ass in a year and I'll be honest, I don't believe the COVID numbers. I have too many questions and not enough answers. A decades old vaccine for yellow fever or malaria isn't the same thing and people shouldn't compare them. We've been pounded into submission with this disease and scared out of our minds. The Lyme Body is not the normal body and no one can give me the information I need to feel safe taking it. My LLMD once told me not to take too much Vitamin C because it boosts your immune system, so why would I take a shot that does the same thing and puts my overactive immune system into overdrive and re-trains my already perfect DNA? The human body is a miracle. It doesn't need training. It sometimes needs help, not training.

I might consider Novavax when it becomes available. Unfortunately I don't think it will be available until the summer. Its not a gene therapy.

My llmd, one of the best, says his lyme patients are tolerating the vaccines very well!

10LymeB: all vaccines "train the immune system" to fight disease.. the covid vaccines are no different in that sense.

They do this by allowing the immune system to get a sneak peek at either some part, or the whole of an offending pathogen. In turn the adaptive immune system can develop and fine tune its response to said pathogen, before there is ever exposure in the real world.

Traditional vaccines use whole weakened or whole inactivated virus to accomplish this. The Sinovac and Sinopharm covid vaccines use whole inactivated virus.

Novavax's covid vaccine contains only the portion of the virus known as the spike protein.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines send code (mRNA) to human cells. The code instructs human cells to actually make the spike protein temporarily.

Astrazeneca and J&J do kinda the same thing but instead they use a modified virus to deliver the code.

Aside from that there may be other concerns around the adjuvants or preservatives.. and I can understand hesitancy as it relates to having or having had Lyme disease.

I trust my Naturopath. (in Canada only Naturopaths recoginze/treat vector infections)

He said it would be better to get the shot then getting COVID. I had the Pfiser shot and will have the 2nd shot in 13 weeks. There is discomfort at the site of the shot and flu like symtoms - mostly tired but that's nothing new. I am coming to accept Bartonella treatment will take time. And, we have all come to learn through this pandemic be it COVID, or our Lyme/Bart it's host (variable) dependant upon the response to these viruses/infections. It will take time and trying different things with COVID. No magic bullet/pill for everyone. I'm hoping in joining this group to gather and share information so we can make our own best judgement about our own health. It's tough having to be our own advocates, but, this is what it is.

We do have one LLMD in Calgary (Dr H) and possibly still one in Ontario.

True, but we won’t necessarily get covid.
If I knew I was going to get covid, the decision would be easier, I’d likely get the shot.
- where I live there are just a few cases.

My concern is that I will possibly (likely?) need a vax passport to travel.

Hi Guys heres an update on my vaccine experience. I received the moderna over 4 weeks ago and feel the best I've felt in 6 years. No side effects except for a sore arm that took a week to go away.

This is the first detailed large study I have found that clearly compares the vaccinated breakthroughs to unvaccinated in a given population (280 nursing homes across 21 states). Since there were fewer unvaccinated people, the comparison will make more sense if you only compare the percentages (in parentheses to the right of the number). It is very different from what we are being told, which is: "vaccinated people are safe, unvaccinated people are at great risk" and will surprise people if the information is not suppressed.

It's been a while since my last post. I was given Pfizer vaccine last Thursday, no adverse effects other than some soreness in the area of the shot that lasted 48h. Did I doubt about getting the vaccine? Not at all. I will keep you posted.

wanted to report i took the pfizer vaccine, both doses, somewhere in march. It is now end of May and i am still alive, lol

I had some minor side effects from vaccine - headache and nausea for 3-4 hours in the night after the shot, and some sore arm. But that's it. I tested my antibody response to covid - 3 weeks after 2nd dose and i had quite a lot of S protein neutralizing antibodies, many times above threshold ... so i guess it worked ?

Dr J told me not to get it - due to lack of longitudinal studies on the vax.
He gave me a script for Ivermectin in case I got Covid.

I didn’t get the vax until it was threatened that I wouldn’t be able to work in the elderly care home (kitchen) -

There haven’t been many Covid cases in my small city.
There are vacant beds in the hospital due to all the cancelled surgeries/procedures.

I finally did get the vax - first and second - Modern - have my passport so I can travel once it is more streamlined - ie with testing /passport ect
