Resources for alt health protocol 13 year old daughter

I am interested in resources to help my 13 year old daughter. She has chronic Lyme, Babesia Duncani and Bartonella. She got sick around 3 years old but was not diagnosed till she was about 8. She had been seeing Dr. J from CT but he is elderly now and not in good health. I am not even sure I can still get in touch with him.

She has been on and off antibiotics for all this time. Her main complaint is hip, knee pain and migraines

I am looking for an alternative treatment plan for her but have no idea where to start. I am nervous about just starting different herbs or treatments on my own. Don't want to hurt her instead of helping.

She is also a very picky eater and am afraid a huge diet change will be very difficult.
any book suggestions or websites etc.

Stephen Buhner's second edition of Healing Lyme is a classic, and it's not an exaggeration to say that Neil Nathan's book Toxic saved my life.

I'm sorry for what your child is going through, and I'm sure the onset of puberty at that age (and its social and hormonal implications) is especially challenging for a person with chronic illness. It's really wonderful that you're reaching out and researching options for helping her to recover.

A relatively low-risk way to start mitigating those symptoms (while you work on addressing underlying causes) could be curcumin and omega 3 fatty acids. Both should help with pain and inflammation. Quercetin and bromelain can help those things as well, by stopping the over-reaction of the immune system that causes so many symptoms in chronic Lyme. Has she been taking those things already?

How has her treatment gone thus far?

She has only really been on antibiotics. Dr J was not into any alternative options. She does do epsom salt baths. and she takes Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D3

She is a bit picky with what she eats etc so diet is hard. I also didn't really know where to start.

Thank you for your advice. I was going to get the Buhner book to start.

But we have gone mostly non alternative. But she does not seem to be responding as well to the antibiotics so I want to try something new and give her poor body a rest from antibiotics etc

I guess I am most nervous about dosing. I am assuming most books have doses for adults but she is only 13. Does any one know if there is a resource on a protocol for kids her age or around her age?

With anyone, I strongly recommend starting very low, such as a single drop, and increasing slowly, introducing new herbs one at a time. That way, if someone reacts poorly or well to a specific herb, you can adjust the dose or discontinue.

Buhner advises to assume the recommended full dose is for a person who weighs 150 pounds, so you divide accordingly (so a person who weighs 100 pounds take 2/3 the recommended dose). He says there are no hormonal or developmental concerns with the core protocol herbs.

i suggest looking into the cell core/ jay davidson protocol which will help get her gut in order and tolerate more foods . his wife was very sensitive to treatment and had mcas histamine issues and her story is no less than miraculous...

although you are keen to move forward with alternative therapies - i would still reccomend Dr Richard Horowitz's 2nd book on Lyme - How can i get better?

its is about the most comprehensive overview of what happens in our bodies in lyme disease and associated infections - and gives a roadmap to investigate all of the imbalances and issues that can hold a person back from recovery.
although he favours antibiotics as the main treatment for infections - he is very much aware that these often do not work on their own for many people - and the reasons for that and what to do about it is what occupies most of the book.

his wife was one of these people and i believe getting her well again is what has driven his remarkable passion to help people in similar predicaments.

he also switched on to alternative therapies for many of the surrounding issues

So sorry your 13 year old daughter is sick. I used Dr. Jernigan's healing at home protocol and have been totally well for 15 years now. There is a free chapter online and he gives the dosing for children and different ages:
