I developed a rash on my penis five days ago. It started with a few red dots on the tip of my penins then some itching around the four skin. I the only new drug that I started was minocycline 5 weeks ago. All other drugs be on for months. The day before the rash I did swim in a pool and had no time to shower. The itching has stopped with frequent cleaning and keeping it dry. The bumps still are their and I do have some raw skin from washing and alcohol stabbing. Freaked out over Steven Johnson Syndrome. In 4-5 days it would have spread? I would think. I was thinking mYbe a male yeast infection

Yeast infecton is what i was going to suggest. I've never had one on the tip but i have had lots of red bumps from one in the crease. The itching on the foreskin makes me think that too.

The other thing obviously is herpes. Any new partners?

If not i'm thinking yeast infection.

No, neither my wife and I have the time with twin 1.5 year Olds. COVID also has kept others at bay. My only thought is we took the kids to swim lessons and got them ready and me in a hurry decide to just change and not shower. So I was wet for a while. I just used some Nastia cream that I had at the house. See how that works. Was freaked out about SJS.

The chemicals in pools are prone to cause rashes. Especially if the chemicals aren't properly adjusted. And also if you didn't have time to shower after like you said. That would be my first guess.

Could be immunosuppresive effect of the minocycline. I got sick with a lot of crap when taking minocycline.

Yeast infection would be my guess, with the antibiotics and wet swimwear.

If you're sexually active or if it's a possibility, then get checked for trichomoniasis. It's an std that causes itching bad itching , and it causes multiple red dots on the penis head and vagina (they're called strawberry spots) can also be mycoplasma or ureaplasma

Yeah, I am going to monitor it close and use nystain antifungal cream to see if it helps. I would hate to have a bad reaction to minocycline because it has decreased alot of my psych symptoms and lowered my brain inflammation.

I'm happy mino is working for ur brain symptoms then I'd keep taking it(these are my biggest issues). I had a friend who used nystatin on the lenos because of same symptoms which thought was to be yeast infection or a reaction to the antibiotics. Sure enough it was trichomoniasis which is a parasitic sti and can be transmitted from towels and such apparently besides of it being sexually transmitted. I forgot which antibiotics I was on bt it caused all the tiny red spots (petechiae) all over the roof of my mouth, wasnt itchy nor did it hurt though and the doc said this can happen. The concern is you're saying it itches which I dnt think is normal for the penis area of all places u know. Why don't u stop the mino for 2 days or so maybe see if the red dots decrease? Men also get yeast infections down there do to antibiotic use not only women.

Was thinking about holding minocycline for a few days. Sucks because when you find something that is working this stuff pops up. I do think it has either killed bugs or modulated my brain immune response. I'm worried that from years of brain inflammation that i have permit damage.

I was on and off minocycline. It does suppress inflammation, and while that may be helpful, it does leave you vulnerable to other infections.

I got the flu and I got the rona and I got an infection down there, probably some kind of fungal infection, not much rash but it itched and smelled bad. When I got the flu I stopped minocycline for a week or so until it went away. I treated the rona with mepron. Whatever it was between my legs, I backed off the minocycline for a while and it went away.

Yes, because minocycline was the only thing that worked for bartonella. It was resistant to clarithromycin and rifampin and beta-lactams, and I couldn't tolerate bactrim, so I went back to minocycline. Since I haven't had a relapse of bartonella for a while now, I might try something other than minocycline for the remaining borrelia infection.

How long were on the minocycline? How long does it take bsrt to become resistant? Would a day pause cause it?

Clarithromycin and rifampin were the first antibiotics I took. If it was even susceptible at all to begin with, it didn't take long to select for resistant bacteria. Within a few months it was clear that it wasn't doing anything to bart, though I did herx from borrelia with those abx. Bartonella henselae is spread by domestic cats, and people give their pets antibiotics, so there is a much higher chance of getting an antibiotic-resistant strain than with other tick-borne diseases that are spread by wild animals, and I almost certainly got the bartonella infection from a cat.

I later took valproate, which killed borrelia but made bart flare similar to what happens with disulfiram. When the bart would flare up then I would kill it with minocycline. I took this on and off, sometimes months off, because valproate not a fun drug to be taking, and I also had problems with the anti-inflammatory effect of the minocycline suppressing my immune system. After about 2 years of this (on and off) I no longer got any noticeable bart herxes. Surpisingly the bartonella never became resistant to minocycline. I will try a few other abx just to make sure there's no bart left, but I'm not having rashes or any other symptoms.

It got rid of a lot of it, but there are some spots that are really hard to kill. Some in my arms and even some hard lumps that I can feel under the skin on my chest. My doctor thinks the granulomas are bart. I'm not sure, because I would think the bart would come out and attack the red blood cells, but my bilirubin looks good so I'm not getting signs of hemolysis. So I dunno. Maybe the bart will relapse, but it hasn't so far.

The borrelia makes my muscles and joints hurt and it's very hard to get rid of it. Dr wants me to try another round of abx. I've been on all these abx before and it didn't eliminate the borrelia. I'll probably end up taking depakote again, because it actually works. Depakote is really not a fun drug to be taking and I know it'll knock me out for like a month, so I'll have to clear my schedule of anything important before I try that.

Interesting - we are all different...

For me, it's Bartonella that has been stubborn. Still have the sore feet (not really bad, more mild now ) each morning when I first step down - getting out of bed.

I suspect Ive had bart since a young child....and possibly my immune system was keeping it in check...and then a few years ago - got a tick bite (didn't ever see one) - when my symptoms exploded.

I had high bilirubin when I was a teenager - so bad that the whites of my eyes were yellowish.
And, i had diarrhea after every meal. I learned to deal with that.

After extensive bart treatment, my bilirubin is in range...and has never gone up again.
And, I no longer have diarrhea. And the whites of my eyes are ...well...white. lol

Who knew? Dang - wish someone would have suggested testing for lyme disease 30 years ago....sigh.

Yes, bartonella caused me a lot of diarrhea. It's mostly gone now. I still get diarrhea from antibiotics sometimes, but not as bad as before.
