i was looking for more info on Dr M and his use of enzymes in bart treatment
- and i came across this study he is one of the listed authors of in a gastroenterology journal
its a case study where they give pretty compelling evidence that bart causes colitis(inflammation in the colon) and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis - a progressive autoimmune scaring disease of the bile ducts in the liver.
in the case study both of these conditions cleared up after a couple of months of antibiotics - vancomycin
not just in this 1 case study - but in a further 5 or 6 small trials also
which is interesting because its thought to be an auto-immune disease and prior treatment efforts have not helped much.
its also interesting because vancomycin is not well absorbed systemically - and largely stays in the gut - so whatever effect it is having on the liver is likely to be achieved by some action inside the gut.
their theory is that perhaps it changes the microbiome in a way that turns off the auto-immunity
The patient in this report was treated with oral vancomycin and, since then, has been in
remission for both colitis and PSC. Since vancomycin is not systemically absorbed, the premise is
that he suffered from Bartonella colitis and an autoimmune reaction to Bartonella causing PSC. This
premise warrants further study.https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1179573519832014like many here - i suffer a form of colitis myself with some discolouration, pain, and high calprotectin marker - just like the case study - i also have another infection triggered autoimmune disease ( thyroiditis) and have pain around my liver area - all of which is common in the population here on the forum so i thought i would post it in case it helps anyone understand what might be driving their symptoms.
the photos of inflamed colon tissue were quite educational
