my meaning was more that lyme can cause cross reactive antibodies to viruses to occur - ie positive antibody test to a virus ( EBV is the well known one ) - but actually its the lyme disease causing organism that caused the body to produce the antibody - and not the EBV
dcd's point is a good one also - with many of the common human viruses - a large % of the population has had them and will always have antibodies - ( most human herpes viruses never leave the body once infected - so there are always some level of antibodies after infection ) - so the usefulness of serology is much lower - as the background level of antibodies in the population is high - and the differential between normal / health and disease becomes smaller.
so then you are reduced to looking for "abnormally high" titres of antibodies - but you can see what a grey area it becomes
