I recall this thread
https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=4183840
The reviews were mixed, some reported herxing and others said it had no effect.
i don't doubt it - but then the same is true of many pharma antibiotics - so its hard to say.
i tend to think the fact that even some people have such strong herx like reactions to it demonstrates its doing some killing of microbes - at least in some people.
i know you do your own science based research Quin - but i wanted to mention also that there seems to be general conflation in the popular health world between Lauric Acid - a common fatty acid found in coconut oil - and monolaurin itself.
it seems to go along the lines of monolaurin is made from lauric acid - and therefore lauric acid will do the same thing in the body - and coconut oil is around 40% lauric acid - so you can get the same effect from coconut oil.
i believe its is thought the human body may be able to convert some lauric acid into monolaurin naturally - but to my knowledge the mechanism for that has never been bottomed out. so to what degree or in how many people is as yet undefined, it may be due to enzymes made by only certain gut bacteria for instance.
anyway - i wonder if this could be part of the reason for the mixed reputation of monolaurin
