My child had a MRSA skin infection. Bactrim did nothing for it, and the topical antibiotics also were useless, ditto the awful bleach baths and disinfectant soaps. <Shudder.> The boils were cultured and found to be susceptible to three antibiotics, two of which are not used in children, and the third of which has such severe side effects and risks that it's only administered by IV and while admitted to the hospital.
So we used a probiotic skin spray, kept the area dry with corn starch, applied manuka honey at night, and applied tea tree oil during the day. She got better.
Antibiotic resistance is deeply scary, but sometimes there are other options.
