Vegf very elevated

Mine has never been high.

High VEGF is most associated with bartonella. Bartonella increases VEGF levels somehow while it is infecting the endothelial cells that line blood vessels.

I wouldn't be worried too worried of that as a sign that you are going to be an especially hard case. I think extensive infection dissemination into tissues, high biofilm, and presence of significant autoimmunity are the major tough factors to overcome. But I don't really know what I am talking ab.

its not raised in all bartonella patients - but the good news is that in those that it is raised in - several LLMD's say that its very useful marker to track progress during treatment with - as this can be a challenge for many bartonella patients

the levels are not necessarily correlated with hard cases as Jason mentions -

it seems it is either a strain dependent thing - or a human host response dependent thing

in general VEG-F drives proliferation of the microvasculature - which is the primary real estate for bartonella infections - so its easy to see why such an adaptation would be favourable to the bacteria.

there is some research to show that some strains make their own proteins analogous to VEG-F - and as per your case, in others it seems that they cause the host instead to increase levels of Host VEG-F and so it may be that more than one way of achieving the same result has evolved.

i think i read that certain Macrolides have a VEG-F lowering effect - erythromycin i think - so if yours is elevated - there could potentially be some clinical benefit - and it might be worth discussing this with your LLMD

I agree with WBF that looking into the tumor possibility through relevant blood work and imaging would be appropriate with VEGF that high, especially for peace of mind.

My VEGF has been elevated, but only into the high eighties. For me this manifested as extra blood vessels growing in my eye and causing vision loss, and endometriosis. I don't know if you have a uterus, Heath, but if so, then keep in mind endometriosis also is associated with high VEGF because the endometrial tissue colonizing the abdomen grows its own vasculature to stay alive. I have Bartonella, also.
