I have had what I thought was athletes foot off and on for years. But now I’m wondering if it actually is athletes foot.
I get red itchy bumps in the arch of my feet. Sometimes it’s also on the side of my foot. It gets worse when my feet are in wet socks/shoes, which happens at work because my feet sweat a ton and I can’t change socks and shoes all the time. I go barefoot as much as I possibly can.
I have tried rinsing my socks in vinegar and drying them, which helps a little. I also use a mix of baking soda and salt as a foot powder, which also helps.
Anyone know what this is?

Hi GoatLady,
How big are the red itchy bumps?
We have an ongoing thread here that might help you:

The itching and bumps could maybe be two separate things.

That sounds like athlete’s foot. A dermatologist should be able to determine if it’s fungal vs dermatitis or something else. If it’s fungal, you may be getting reinfected from your socks and shoes. It would be good to find out why you have had this for years - what’s the root cause? Are you on any prescript
ion antifungals like Nystatin or Fluconazole?

They are little, like the head of a small sewing pin. Or smaller. I think they are related to the itch because the more visible the bumps are, the itchier I am. I’ve never taken antifungals or seen a dermatologist. I guess I avoid doctors because any time I’ve seen one (especially in the last year), they don’t listen anyway. It does go away sometimes for months at a time, but then when I’m working outside a lot it gets worse.
I agree it could be in my socks and shoes. I have washed both with vinegar to kill it. Should do that more often though.
