Good news is you have gotten better, astroman. That's a tribute to your persistency.
Itc - Was the nerve conduction test or EMG positive? If so, that would indicate large fiber. Unless I'm a total idiot (and that's possible), if one or both of those were positive, that indicates large fiber neuropathy. Do you still have problems with neuropathy?
The other possibility is the tests were negative, you had neuropathy symptoms and Lyme, so the doctor deduced it is small fiber. But that is not proof, if that is what happened. It's an assumption.
I used to have a lot of issues with neuropathy, especially during the time I saw this doctor who was ordering the tests for neuropathy. The emg showed was positive for neuropathy and they used that diagnosis to have IVIG covered by insurance so that diagnosis was surely there. So I got diagnosed with some sort of polyneuropathy. He sometimes said it was small fiber neuropathy which never made sense, this doc was all over the place and the more I talked to him and other patients I knew that went to him I realized he was a quack, just stealing peoples money with unproven IV treatments. This was the 5th “Lyme” doc id been to and probably the worst one lol.
But currently I’ve been treating Lyme and Co with abx aggressively with a new doc and my neuropathy has improved greatly along with other symptoms. It just hurts me to hear people who go through similar experiences, having doctors waste their money, time and most of all how doctors drag patients along and just have them suffer. A lot of people can’t realize it until after the fact, that they are being take advantage of
