Transport to Appointment for Sister

Hi all,

I was hoping to get your opinions/advice. My sister, who I have posted about several times here, will be switching to a new doctor very soon, as her current doc is retiring. The first appointment will be remote, but there is the possibility that she will need to be seen in-office for the second. I am dreading this because going anywhere is excruciatingly painful for her these days, given her neurological condition. She can’t sit for prolonged periods of time without experiencing discomfort, is light and sound sensitive, has motion sickness issues, you name it, she’s dealing with it. The only thing that I can think to do is to schedule a non-emergency medical transport for her.

Have any of you ever been in this type of situation or knew someone who was? How exactly did you handle it? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi mak24,

I remember some of your posts about your sister who I am truly sorry is still suffering. If it were me, I would find another doctor who understands the fact that travelling is difficult for her and make sure until your sister could tolerate travelling that all appt's have to be remote.

Remember, you or your sister pays the doctor so the doctor is the customer not the other way around. Why people bend over backward to see a doctor is beyond me. Yes, I get it that LLMD's (especially good ones) are hard to find.

That said if your sister has not improved by all this time then perhaps it's time to change up her meds, look into alternative medicine, read books by authors such as Buhner, Rawls, Jernigan, etc.

Early on I had discomfort when I wasn’t flat on my back.
The next best position was standing - sitting was the worst.
When we had to travel - we put the car seat back as far as it would go. It wasn’t ideal but it helped.

Can you get some meds for the pain for the trip?
I was also in excruciating pain early on - pre diagnosis - and the pain pills helped - although I was loopy on them.
