It's not a new article, but I came across it the other day and thought it was quite good. I definitely have jaw/teeth area issues with Lyme. It's not even really visible to normal dentists. I had an exam the other day and they said everything looked good, teeth, gums. Meanwhile these days when I herx from various treatments I feel a lot of jaw/cheekbone/teeth inflammation and then have to detox a bunch.

Originally all my symptoms got way worse after having my wisdom teeth extracted. I think I had Lyme prior to that point but the surgery was when it really took over.

Thanks for sharing! I went to dentist a few weeks ago and I am showing something on xrays due to jaw clenching/slight tremor (it was a dark line around the tooth). I do get jaw soreness, like it can't relax. She had recommended a night guard which I have yet to get.

Pinella seems to help with my jaw tension.

Yeah I've had to use a night guard for years due to jaw tension and teeth grinding. I wouldn't be surprised if that was also due to Lyme.

I've noticed that I will often get muscle cramps in localized areas where it feels like I'm herxing if I don't detox enough. I think the Lyme toxins can have the effect of causing muscles to contract.

For me it has to be lyme since I never had an issue with this before. The jaw tightness/soreness was a few weeks preceeding my numbness.

k07: I have a night guard because I clench my teeth at night and grind my teeth. It definitely makes a difference, although you might not realize it right away. I really notice a difference when I forget to wear and I wake up with a headache, jaw pain, and sore teeth. I would definitely recommend getting one.

Ya, teeth grinding is important to prevent. I grind my teeth. If you don't prevent yourself from this activity, at least at night, you can totally grind your teeth down and end up with dentures. no fun.

So this is actually my main symptom and it's so frustrating and doesn't seem that common. Just thought maybe I would share my story if it helps you. :)

I had 2 upper molar root canals that always gave me pain in my face and jaw for years even though the dentists said everything looked fine. Then a couple years ago my face and lymph node on that side started swelling, with pain down my back, ear, up my head. After I was told it was just night clenching (which I do however)I sought out a holistic dentist.

He discovered through CT scan that the root canals had created infections and holes in the jawbone. (This was 2 years ago, and before I knew I had Lyme). He recommended extraction of both teeth right away and we both honestly thought this would be the end to all my systemic health problems. I had a regular (not holistic) oral surgeon do the surgery, therefore no special techniques. Just a round of ABX and that was it. Immediately the pain was gone, although systemically things didn't really change. (In hindsight I wish I would have had the infection cultured for type of bacteria.)
Then one year later the pain and swelling returned with a vengeance and has not subsided since. Even though the teeth are gone! I too have had scans, tests, etc and again the dentists say everything is fine. (I moved to across the world so no longer have access to my holistic dentist).

When I found out I had Lyme last summer I suspected this was the culprit and my LLMD thinks so too. We think all the time it was Lyme in the root canals. Then when I had them removed because the infected bone wasn't properly treated it just grew back poorly with the spirochetes still intact. When I started ABX for Lyme the pain went away within a day, but now that I am doing herbal protocols it's back again.

There is a clinic in the UK that deals with these cases and infected cavitations which I think the article mentions. I am considering going there. However I recently found this article that gives a little more hope! I also found an ozonated oil pulling product online which I might try. Although the taste of ozone is horrendous!

BTW, if you have never read Dr. Weston Price's work it is fascinating! His book is called "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" and his own son actually died of a root canal.

I hope you can find some relief somehow!

TrialByLyme, thanks for the article! It's quite detailed, will have to try some of their recommendations. I haven't read any of Weston Price's work but it does sound like it would be quite interesting. I've definitely followed his dietary advice over the years.

I went to a biological dentist a couple of years ago who is Lyme literate and he did some scans and found that I have some jawbone cavitations. There was a treatment to have ozone injected in but I didn't opt for it at the time.

I've been oil pulling since last spring, coconut oil with ~10 drops of either Cinnamon bark, Cinnamon leaf or Clove essential oil mixed in. Recently I've started adding some ozonated hemp oil as well. Agreed that the ozonated oil tastes horrific, I think its basically oxidized to the max, so it's essentially rancid, yum. I find it’s doable with an essential oil mixed in though.

I've also been using a Rife machine since last June or so. I bought a Tesla Violet Ray on a whim and started using it on my jaw/cheekbones around November. Right around the time I started using the Violet Ray I started getting a lot of jaw inflammation and started needing to detox a lot, more than I had in the past entire year.

So with the combination of these things I think I reached a tipping point where stuff started to be killed off en masse in my jaw area, the last two months there has been continuous die-off there. I've noticed this before with treatment, all of a sudden a particular organ such as the lungs will become a focal point of inflammation and a ton of die-off will result. I suspect that Borrelia has immune suppressing effects that are local to a particular region. Once you get their levels down to a certain point the dam breaks and you can clear out the area fairly quickly. That or maybe the protective biofilm needs to be broken down before you can really make progress.

I actually just bought a plasma Rife system to try to target the bones even more. The Rife plasma systems use a tube of a charged noble gas to emit the frequencies, similar to the Tesla Violet Ray which I got good results from. I used it a couple of days ago with a higher harmonic of the 2016 hz Borrelia killing frequency (129,024 hz). This resulted in a ton of inflammation and herxing in my jaw, cheekbones, and within teeth themselves. This is definitely the most herxing in that area that I have had to date from any treatment. I had just used the tube over my entire body so the treatment was not localized to the jaw region, but the effects were felt primarily there.

I’m starting to get optimistic now that these stubborn jawbone infections will be beatable with these frequency type treatments. The frequencies from Rife machines and particularly from plasma systems can easily travel through the most dense body tissues.

This was one of first symptoms for me - I woke unable to move my jaw, it was rigid and this went on for weeks, neither Doctor nor dentist could find out why it was happening. Prior to this I had a crown fitted to two upper molars and the gum surrounding this was often swollen and infected. I would literally cry with the pain and sometimes I would have to hold my jaw as it was so painful I felt I needed to hold it to keep it in place. I knew something was badly wrong - I looked at photographs taken round that time and my lower face and jawline was very swollen. It seemed like the bones in my face were all infected, it was really painful and frightening. I have had ear problems this past couple of weeks, full of fluid and now sores in my ears. This morning I woke with my jaw rigid again and it filled me with dread as I could not go through all that again. Thanks for posting I will read that article.

Wow.

A year ago August I developed an infection in the gum/ tooth with a root canal...first lower molar. It was extracted by a holistic dentist. I've been back for a cleaning since...the hygienist swabbed my mouth and looked under the microscope (she thought I might have yeast) She said she thought she saw spirochetes. I thought that was a little far-fetched...maybe not! She also gave me a chart of the teeth and the energy meridians mentioned in the article...fascinating!

I have a mouth full of root canals that need to be extracted and amalgam that needs to be removed. I'm going to spend the rest of my life fixing (and paying for) health mistakes made earlier in life.

Wow, it is so encouraging to hear you are making progress with the oil pulling and Rife!! Great ideas with the essential oils. I am going to try that. I thought about adding maybe some Hydrogen Peroxide to the oil pulling regime and see if that helps too. I also wonder about the whole clay or charcoal thing. Maybe as a rinse? I mean some of us use them to detox our bodies but what about used locally in our mouths? Just an idea I have been pondering since the craze with charcoal and clay toothpastes. Just out of curiosity why did you not do the ozone injections? I had them done after my surgery as well as IV's but perhaps I didn't do them long enough. How do you detox? I too follow(ed) the WAPF diet. It pretty much changed my life. Except for the Lyme part, lol.

I am pretty new to Lyme and although I have read much about Rife I haven't quite "gone there" yet as a possible treatment means. So much of this is utterly overwhelming most of the time. But maybe you have persuaded me! ;)

Suzee: Yes, I have that too, where you need to hold your jaw. :( I always tell my husband some one needs to invent an ice/heat pack that you can wear on your face, lol. How are you now? Any better?

Kathie: That is crazy that the hygienist said she may have seen Spirochetes! I wouldn't doubt it. Don't beat yourself up about past health mistakes. We've all been there. I personally would not have had my root canals removed then had I known the havoc it would cause. I would have worked on the Lyme first. I hope you are finding answers.

TrialByLyme, Adding hydrogen peroxide is a great idea, seems like it would definitely complement the ozonated oil. Last night I was looking at this bottle of Colostrum I started taking recently for general immune support. It actually says on the bottle that you can put it directly on the gums for healing. I'll have to try that out. Clay might be worth looking into as well.

I think at the time I had just gotten dxed with Lyme and was a bit overwhelmed. I had been treating myself for a couple years with essential oils for an unknown stealth infection and had made good progress already. If I recall the ozone injections were like $5k not covered by insurance so I was a bit hesitant.

Yeah Rife seems a bit out there. Someone let me try their machine and when I herxed like I did from herbs and essential oils I was sold. I wish I had gotten one sooner but I just couldn't wrap my head around the concept.

Did I read that right? Lyme and coinfections usually reside in the mouth? To evade the immune system huh?
That could explain why my teeth keep rotting away and slowly disintegrating ever since getting lyme & coinfections despite brushing them daily with fluoride containing toothpaste. Before getting sick with lyme & coinfections I never had any teeth problems whatsoever. Anyone else notice this phenomenon or is it just me? Would you suggest gurgling with clove extract? Thanks!

Sounds familiar. My teeth always hurt when I take antibiotics or herbs. Feels like a painful cavity but teeth are always fine. I think my dentist is getting annoyed with me. :p

I didn’t read through all the comments here, only the title and your posts. Dental issues are common with Lyme and coinfections, especially Bartonella, which affects the vascular system.

Many Lyme patients are encouraged to see a biological dentist to be checked for cavitations (not the same as cavities). Hidden dental infections can drain the immune system and harbor bacteria. This would be even more highly recommended for folks who actually have dental problems or have had root canals or extractions.

There are also dental spirochetes that are not borrelia.

Walking by Faith, do you know what kind of imaging would be used checking for cavitations? We have a biological dentist that uses a panoramic digital X-ray, among other imaging. I'm wondering if anything would have shown up. My husband has had terrible teeth problems, despite excellent hygiene, no sugar, etc.

At the time jawbone cavitations were written about, they were using CAVITAT scans. They stopped making those and very few remain. Now most biological dentists use a conebeam scan to look for cavitations. It’s not the same as the digital xrays.

Oh ok! They have mentioned cone beams in the past, so I will have to see about doing that.
My husband has lost 5 teeth in the past couple years due to these chronic infections that don't seem to go away.

Has he tried coconut oil pulling? If not, that would be a good thing to do in the meantime while waiting for more scans and treatment from a dentist.

If you’re not familiar with it, it’s very simple to do.

1. Get organic virgin (unrefined) cold pressed coconut oil. You can get it at the grocery store or health food store. The unrefined oils are sometimes in the vitamin and supplement section while others may be in the grocery oils section,.
I currently use Nature’s Way, which is easy to find. I have also used Barlean’s.

2. Use a regular spoon and get a large blob out.

3. Put the coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around WITHOUT SWALLOWING for 10-20 minutes. If you get too much in your mouth, just spit a little out and keep swishing.

4. When you’re done, spit it out IN THE TRASH. Don’t spit in the sink or toilet, as the oil can clog drains.

5. Rinse with water and spit again.

6. Brush teeth.

Helpful Hints:
- I like to brush my teeth both before and after. That way, I remove food particles out of the way, so the oil can get to work better on teeth, gums, and tongue.
- Sometimes I get tooth pain if I do it days in a row. It may be best to start with 2-3 times a week.

WBF, yes, he oil pulls almost every day and usually puts a couple drops of peppermint or clove oil. He also uses oral probiotics and mineral based mouthwash.

Anecdotally, I do it too and I've noticed a receding gum improve significantly.
