Parasite die off?

I have Lyme and mold and suspected parasites. I always have worsening symptoms around the full moon. I recently started ivermectin and mycobind every other day and really feel bad, it’s only been two weeks and I have not seen any parasites in my poo but could it be die off?

Thank you Garzie I have severe brain atrophy, Lyme, mold, suspected heavy metals and I’m sure much more. I have been battling for 6 years and have never had an exact idea of what is causing what. I am currently waiting for cirs panel results.

it is known that changes in the BBB can also lead to changes in the brain itself - eg inflammation and likely also atrophy.

so one possibility is that something upset the delicate BBB ( infection, toxins, heavy metals etc etc and strong reaction to Ivermectin could be a sign of that), that disturbance of blood brain barrier then lead to changes in the brain over time. as i understand it - when the BBB is disturbed things from the peripheral blood supply get into the brain and cause issues there - typically inflammation and immune activation as the immune system tries to clean up - and potential auto-immune reactions also.

of course - this is pure supposition on my part - and only one of many possible scenarios - but i wanted to write something that could possibly give some assistance or direction to discuss with your doctors.

there are some research tests available to measure markers of BBB function / integrity

looks like there are people looking at these tests in the Cleveland centre - Ohio

there are also panels of antibody markers to compounds found within the brain that are commercially available - i think the people dealing with PANDAS may know more about that - so if the research tests are not available - this might be another option to pursue to get some answers.

if auto-immunity was found to be at work - there are things you can do to address that

not exactly - several organs in the body are special and sensitive in that they cannot be directly exposed to everything that is in the circulating blood supply

the body therefore has a semi-permeable membrane between the general blood supply - and the fluid inside those organs - to allow only the subset of the things in the blood, that the organs needs to survive to get through - and keep the damaging things out - in the case of the central nervous system - this is called the Blood Brain Barrier(BBB). it must allow oxygen and hormones etc in - but not pathogens, larger food molecules, antigens etc.

if its function is impaired that's exactly what will start to happen - and the results can be unpredictable.
inflammation is always going to be a feature and this is likely immune mediated ( driven by the immune system).

so that's where things start to get complex - as each persons immune system and immune reactions are different.
pathogens may play a part of course as they can and do make their way into our brains ( human brains of even healthy persons are not 100% sterile ), but other things are known to dysrupt the BBB - infections, toxins, chemicals, some pharma drugs - even some herbs to some extent.

so its not that the BBB itself courses damage - but that things getting to the brain because it fails to keep them out - can initiate a cascade of inflammatory events - most likely driven by the immune system - and it is these that can damage the brain

ref COVID - COVID is known to have adverse effects on endothelial cells - which are the type of cells that make up the BBB - so its certainly possible that COVID could have some impact on the BBB - although i haven't seem any direct evidence of that - but from memory i think your issues predate COVID by some years - so i would not assume that to be a large factor in your case.

this is of course only one possible mechanism by which altered brain structure may have occurred - my main point being that if you can test for and find antibodies to neuronal structures ( commercial tests exist for this) it could give you some direction for treatment options.

yep - that's one hypothesis - unconfirmed at this point

the history of what may have happened is useful in trying to figure out what might be going on

but - what matters now is what to do about it

i find it helpful to focus on the things i can do something about

for example- if you can establish auto-immunity to neurons was a factor in your case - it would provide some corroboration of the above hypothesis - and that would allow a treatment direction and some hope of arresting further progression.

that's my thought process in any case

i know its difficult - and no matter how helpful and well intentioned people on the forum are - we cannot know all the ins and outs of your position

we can talk in general terms though-
for example - typically conventional western doctors will not be able to offer much by way of treatment or hope for chronic diseases they have labelled degenerative

that's when most people turn to functional medicine - which although often more complex - at least tries to get the to root cause and do something about that

doctors from these two schools of thought are typically very different and not likely to agree

you therefore may have to choose which you will work with in terms of future direction

if its the case of conventional medicine saying "its a degenerative neurological condition - and there is not much we can do" and the functional medicine people saying - "its complicated but we can try this or this"
then to my mind that's a relatively simple choice between no hope and at least some hope.

if it were me i think i would be working with a functional medicine doctor to try to get to the bottom of important questions like?
-is infection present and contributing
-is auto-immunity present - esp to neuronal tissues

these are important questions in my mind because they lead to outcomes that are actionable and give hope

in your shoes i would direct all my energy to the things i can do something about - rather than the things that have happened already - or you can do little about.

i mean that in the most helpful way possible

when things are challenging - its all too easy to focus on what's bad, wrong, already happened that we wish hadn't happened, what we see as our bad luck etc etc

but these things are paralysing and rob our energy, hope, motivation etc

the best response is to focus on the things that can help - that you can do something about - even if its only a small chance - and leave little time in your day for those things that do not help you move forward

i have had my share of dark times with this disease - and i can tell you this helps
