....in treatment of lyme and co's.

During my last appt with my LLMD, it was discussed....I was trying to make notes about it...and then he switched to discussing Covid 19.

Now I can't decipher the notes - I think he was suggesting trying it for Lyme and co's.

Anyone try it?

There is a facebook group about it. I believe a study showed it had some activity against Bartonella. My LLMD recommended it. I might give it a shot. I don't expect too much from it. The few people who have reported results on the FB group show a wide range of experiences both negative and positive. Additionally, the dosage seems to be like throwing a dart in the wind. Nobody really knows yet. It reminds me a lot of Disulfiram. Potentially very helpful but needs more knowledge and experience.

there's been some discusion on thsi here recently Girlie

off the back of the Bartonella study from Zhang and his associates - where they investigated the anti-persister activity of many already approved drugs against Bart and compared the anti-persister activity to more established bart ABX.

methylene blue stood out to me because
> it was one of the most effective drugs against Bart in the entire study
>it has a long history of use over many decades for many diseases and its safety profile can be demonstrated
>it can be taken orally and is absorbed ( whereas many of the drugs tested have poor absorption through the gut and so the kind of concentrations proven to work in the study cannot be achieved )
> It has beneficial effects on inflammation, cognitive function, and mitochondria - all areas of interest for people with Lyme and bart.

there is a facebook group for people using it - but getting pharmaceutical grade material seems to be an issue

Nope - I would consider it quite seriously if I could get a reliable source of Pharmaceutical grade product though.

This is important as the manufacturing process seems to create some heavy metals as impurities.

I think Bart maybe my biggest challenge - 12 months of antibiotics including 4 months of triple ABX combination hasn't really hit it - and this MB does seem very promising.

I would definitely try it. It does turn urine blue. I’ve taken it in a supplement for cystitis called Uribel (i think i only took 3 pills a day so that would be 30 mg of MB). I believe most llmd’s are prescribing 50 mg/2x a day. It helped tremendously calm my cystitis down to a manageable level.

I also got some information in my portal from the J Clinic.

Looks like there are some serious side effects/risks taking it.

Some contraindications with other meds/supplements.

There's one part of the info where it asks to list all meds and supplements.

I didn't really show interest ie wanting to take it...so it's interesting I got the info sent to me.

When I was on the Bart/Persister's protocols and taking Dapsone and Daraprim - Dapsone (maybe also daraprim?) had a risk of methemoglobinemia - and the treatment was methylene blue.

Or...they had bad side effects?

Dr MR is using it as part of bart protocol. Likes that or oregano oil with abx.

It's been a few months since I really skimmed that page so I don't want to misrepresent the totality of the experinces there. I'm thinking about taking it so I'll redo my research and come back with a more accurate answer. I seem to remember many experiences that it didn't really work. Don't really remember anything about side effects except blue urine. Again, I'll take another look.

Is it generally available at most pharmacies?

If not, I may not be able to get it anyway. (In Canada)

The pharmacy I get my meds from is a compounding pharmacy - but not sure about the methylene blue.

I might call them and ask about it.

yep that's the safest route at the moment

some of the people on the Facebook group were taking a product that was thought to be pharmaceutical grade - and they had it tested independently to try to verify - but they posted the test cert and if i was reading it right it had a little too much heavy metals in it for my comfort.

if a proven pharma source becomes available I would be keen to try it as compounded is out of reach for me.

lower doses seem to be neuroprotective / improve cognitive function
higher doses seem to be needed for Bart treatment

I am taking Methylene Blue already for one week 50 mg daily I wasn't herxing terrible but all of sudden after a week this Saturday that's yesterday. I started getting stomach discomfort and shaking and tiredness. my dr really wanted me to stat 100 mg Methylene Blue this week Sunday but the way things are going i cant even think of going higher and doubling my dose at least for another week. what do you think. ?
