Hello Garzie,
As agreed with you earlier, I, too, was perplexed because of an early journey experience with a naturopath, now hind sight is 20/20, she was not in-tune to Lyme or it’s aggressive nature, she gave my daughter regular spit tests on every visits; detox ideas and supplements. I did NOT know what I know today.
My hope in sharing my daughter’s experience is to hope to help others on this same journey to seek out options.
This is what I wish I had (a Lyme flashlight) in the darkness of Lyme HELP! So yes, I was very perplexed, and the first visit with the newest dr. The first question asked was regarding the western blot test because my daughter has never taken one. Important to note for this conversation, my daughter has had blood draws, every test imaginable to include CAT/MRI scans, energy work, biofeedback, allergic to bees, seen 1 infectious control dr who tested my daughter for Lyme Disease and gas lit us in the denial of co infections of Lyme and the proof of bacterias from private lab results that were refused.
The only private lab in her five year journey was Cyrex Lab (2020) who confirmed co infections of Lyme.
In her journey, the medical traditional community and antibiotic is to say the least, useless! The functional and natural community has helped in getting her to the next person of care and treatment.
So finding Lyme N and my daughter’s current dr has been a breath of fresh air!
This is the dr’s explanation regarding her process and recommendation to Lyme N...
The western blot test involves separating blood proteins to find those that suggest an infection is present. Too many false negatives exist. Therefore, the western blot test should not be considered the only indicator of whether someone has Lyme disease. Even with adding the C6 peptide ELISA with the two-tiered western blot, the sensitivity for identifying Lyme improves only slightly.
The dr recommend two tests. One is DNA Connexions, a urine test ($400) The other is MacTech Imaging ($200+), a saliva test.
The DNA Connexions test identifies co-infections common to Lyme disease. MacTech Imaging picks up where the DNA Connexions test leaves off by giving doctors an idea of a patient’s overall microbial load. Each saliva sample is scanned for spirochetes and then given a graded score.
At this date, her results are not in and the dr recommended to start treatment because my daughter was in a chronic state.
I hope this helps! If you have any questions, please continue to ask!
Best,
Wan
