Dr J told me to take some supplements for Covid - I will check my Lyme papers - hoping I can find the list and post back later.
I think there are 4 or 5 he suggested

Vita C 1000 mg 2xday
Vita D 5,000 daily
Zinc 50 mg daily
Quercetin 500 mg daily
Nattokinase 100 mg daily
Fish oil (omega 3) 600 mg x2
Curcumin

It's normal to have a high heart rate when you are fighting an infection and/or have a fever. (But it feels awful!) Do your best to rest and stay calm, to give your heart a break. Your cytokines and inflammation are supposed to be going nuts right now - this is their job when you have an acute infection. But I know it feels really awful and alarming. As far as I know, a little Tylenol is okay if the fever is unbearable.

Girlie's list of supplements makes sense to me - lots of antioxidants, blood thinners to prevent clots and vascular damage, and anti-inflammatories to manage symptoms and get the immune system back to normal afterward (and thus perhaps help prevent long-term symptoms). I would add to stay hydrated, get lots of rest, and be kind to yourself. A virus can be a big strain on your system, so it makes sense to have lots of freaky symptom flares, but things will get better in time!

Thank you for your calm, rational thoughts!! It helped a lot. Since being full-blown with Lyme and especially since the existence of COVID, acute respiratory illnesses can be nerve wracking.

Update:

I went to the clinic and got tested yesterday afternoon for COVID and Flu. Both were negative. The doctor was surprised, but I wasn’t. The same thing happened a year ago when I had a very Omicron like illness.

I felt the fever come back slightly yesterday afternoon and evening, but I didn’t get the heart racing/pounding again, thank God. I remember when I was 20 years old and had strep throat. That was the sickest I had ever been in my life before Lyme, and I remember feeling scared at how my body felt.

Anyway, woke up in the dark hours this morning coughing up globs of stuff and out of my nose. My nose is now congested, which it wasn’t before.

I spent Thanksgiving with family and one kid had woken up sick that day and was kept in isolation away from everyone else, but family that had been staying at their house for 2 weeks had arrived sick. So, a Thanksgiving present, no doubt. I am not this affected by a regular cold, so whatever this is, it’s much worse than a cold.

P.S. - The doctor at the clinic was odd. He did not examine me other than the nurse taking vitals, which I didn’t even see. He had my report of symptoms and negative tests for COVID and flu. He went ahead and prescribed a Z-pack and offered steroids. I declined the steroids and asked why he wanted to Rx abx for a virus. He predicted a 2ndary bacterial illness in a few days.😒. I rebuke that, in the name of Jesus!!

Thnx. It was dark and I didn’t turn the light on see the color, but I just now coughed up a speck, and it was light yellow.

Does yellow or green mean bacteria?

I haven’t had a whole lot of coughing, but have some. When I cough, it makes me feel fatigued.

In my past, I used to deal with sinus infections a lot. The color I always spit up was yellow. Azithromax or another antibiotic usually knocked it out, indicating yellow was bacterial. I'm with pots on that one. Girlie's list is a good one and comes from a great source.

It's hard not to worry to a next level when something happens after years of Lyme. A doctor would probably tell you the heart is "just anxiety." Been through that many times. Hopefully, that will pass as you feeel better, which I hope is soon for you.

I think it's probably too early for this to have turned into a bacterial infection. It's normal for viruses to make you feel awful and cough up gobs of things, and for symptoms to evolve and multiply over the course of a few days or even a week. I had lots of sinus infections as a teenager, and the rule then was that only green or fluorescent yellow phlegm was cause for antibiotics, and even then not always. People can have a rainbow of phlegm without bacteria being the cause. Your doctor (who does not sound like a very detail-oriented person, to say the least!) sounds like he's still operating on the outdated model of over-prescribing antibiotics "just in case." If you develop a fever or other symptoms really ramp back up after having resolved for a few days, then the antibiotics seem like they'd be more warranted. That's my two cents as a person who doesn't do well with antibiotics!

As for your relatives, I'm sure they're lovely people, but the phenomenon of leaving the house with sick kids never will be okay with me. Spreading viruses can be optional!

Hey WalkingbyFaith, first, I'm so sorry your sick on top of being sick! It's miserable, that's for sure.

I don't know what you have, bit it sounds a lot like what I had. I'm not completely over it yet, but now it's just clearing out the remaining congestion for me. I had (and promptly gave to my hubby) RSV. I went back and forth the whole time about whether it was RSV or the flu, but once hubby came down with it, it was clearly RSV. I developed a slight fever (never went over 102), and my joints were incredibly painful, but I have a tendency to go quickly to bronchitis (then progress quickly to pneumonia), and all the inflammation hit my joints was all.

I coughed up a sticky phlegm, that went from clear, to white, to a white-pus color before I got it under control with Mucinex 12 hour.

I (and hubby) used a nasal spray that has a bit of steroid in it (generic Flonase) to gain control over the incredible sinus pressure that came with this. My ears hurt pretty bad from all the pressure!

Anyway, this just adds another possibility to what you're dealing with, but our illnesses sounded enough alike I thought I'd add my voice as well.

WBF, whenever I am sick, I'm pretty sure it's the end of the world and that every symptom portends doom. I definitely do not mean to dismiss your concerns - complications do happen! - just to say that viruses can be incredibly miserable but still pass uneventfully, even if it takes a while. Hang in there!

I have felt even worse today. I went to sleep last night and slept okay until I woke up coughing around 3:30-4. The congestion was loosening, and I was coughing up and blowing out stuff again. Unfortunately I never went back to sleep.

The concerning thing is I have felt like I had a fever all day (still do). I finally checked my temperature at 5:40pm and it was around 99.7. Yesterday and today, I also have had ear pain and sinus pressure that increases thr day into evening along with stuffy nose and some coughing.

I don’t think I had any fever yesterday. So, I had chills and fever the afternoon of Day 2 into the night and all most of the day on Day 5.

Do these symptoms sound like COVID or something else? I tested negative, but the progression of this seems long and unusual in pattern.

I have been taking Alinia, but I only took it once a day instead of twice a day.

I tested negative for the flu, too, but I don’t know if I trust the tests. Same thing happened last year, but that time I had very little and very random respiratory symptoms and fever only 24 hours or less.

This is the worst fever I have had in years, and I was expecting to feel progressive improvements after Thursday. Instead, I felt worse yesterday and started having the ear pain and then today the same with fever all day on top of that. The guafenesin gave a little relief from the ear pain and sinus pressure, but aspirin did nothing tonight and Aleve did nothing last night.

If it was just congestion and coughing, it would just be like a sinus infection, but the relapsing fever and the inflammation and pain make this worrisome.

I think I am starting to feel some tightness or soreness in my chest, even though it hasn’t been constant or uncontrollable coughing.
