Monolaurin: Safe for pregnancy?

You’re talking about pregnancy and life. Sorry to disappoint but this is a liability loaded question.

Only thing people can do is post a link to something They find. Then you make the decision.

FYI - tick infections can be passed on to the unborn child. Might want to think this through.

With only 9 Posts, you look like a new member here. I would not know you’ve had lyme for 10 years.

This is an “iffy”subject. Just in case someone comes along and says “yes this is totally safe for pregnancy” well, Per the forum rules they can’t just say that. I do not make the rules.

I’m just being honest , not trying to cause a commotion. 😊

its down to the "unknown unknowns"

it could be that no one can point to a specific mechanism known today that would make it unsafe - but it could still cause problems with something vital in the developing foetus through a mechanism no-one knows about - because ultimately there is not much research on the matter - more unknowns than knowns.

for example - it could do something to the immune system of the child ( there are some studies pointing to some immune modulating effects of monolaurin potentially increasing auto-immunity in adults) or some other totally unexpected effect

unknown unknowns are very hard to perform risk vs benefit equations with

i am not sure what anyone here could say - one way or another - that would meaningfully change the situation.

even if someone chipped in that they took it throughout pregnancy and their baby was fine for instance - that would still not tell you its safe - as - as we all know a person could also smoke 20 cigarettes a day for 10 years and not die of lung cancer - but the next 4 people may well do.


in these circumstances why not use the precautionary principle - ie why take the risk if there are other safer antimicrobial things a person could take while pregnant.

If you feel that you must reproduce right away, then I would suggest sticking with treatments that have known safety information with regard to pregnancy. But if possible, I would urge you to delay having a biological child until your partner is feeling better in an ongoing way. Pregnancy can be extremely depleting for the body, even for folks without tick-borne diseases.
