Changed LLMD - antibiotic break

I changed my doc, and he requested taking 3 weeks break from antibiotics before starting new protocol to check the symptoms without antibiotics, and to prepare.

I was on Rifampicin 300-600 mg and Doxycyline 200-400 mg lately.

After 5 days I have some Bartonella symptoms returning (pressure in the head, tinnitus, irritability) and I started to feeling worse.

Doc will be available since Monday, so what should I do?

Welcome, thank you.

That’s the thing - Dr Office is closed in weekends, so I can call at earliest within Monday. So I’m scared about that 2 days, and wanted to know peoples opinion.

2 days is nothing in the scheme of things with Lyme treatment - i wouldn't worry

lyme itself is a very slow growing organism - and its population will not change much in 2 days without antibiotics

bartonella replicates more quickly - but even that for most people takes around 1 week off abx to start to rear its head - if its going to - and not everyone relapses quickly on withdrawal of abx.

in any case - if you have been on abx long term, a week or so off is unlikely to be a game changer

you might experience some symptoms changes due to minocycline in particular being an anti-inflammatory agent - rather than the removal of antibiotics - so i would try not to freak out

i would just call them on Monday

Hate to say this but it might actually be undiagnosed babesia. Ive heard many people say they were treating bart or lyme for years only to find out their head pressure and symptoms returning were really babesia the whole time. Hoping I'm not one of these people that are dealing with this. I've been thinking about this myself lately.

True about lyme but I did just read an article that bartonella cycles about every 5 days or something like that. I always am concerned about bart growing again and multiplying

bartonella Quintana - is the organism involved in Trench fever - or "5 day fever" - as in "quint" for 5 - which is known for reoccurring fevers each 5 days - which is where it gets it name

but that's not the same as the time it take to rebound after abx and not many people in the Lyme community are dealing with that particular species

Bartonella replicates in 22–24 hours. This does not qualify as significant growth taking place. It requires time for levels to return to normal if a sizable number of bacteria are eliminated beforehand. In vitro one study even has a 3 hour doubling time.
