Income tax

Not to be off topic here and all but thought it be nice to talk about another subject related to our illness but not actually the illness. Anyone own a home before they got sick with Lyme? Worked their butts off while they were sick with Lyme etc. and managed to pay for home? I got around 8k last year and this year only got back around 3 k close to 4!!?? Not complaining because it's still money , do I like it though ? No I don't like this situation. I had the intentions of saving all of income tax for my treatment and to get my kids tested and treated as well. I really want to rent to own or be a home owner and feel it's just never going to happen. At this point , I have no intentions of paying $427 every 2 months just to talk to my LLMD about how I feel mostly . My llmd is chatty which is great but I feel I waist money more listening to him talk. I see Dr. M in CT and he talks his butt off. Anyhow, has anyone actually managed to pay on a house while sick like this, or struggled ? Anyone get lucky and actually own their house before crap hit the fan? I know there's a a right time for everything, but I feel like I should save my 4k and not waist it all on llmd again. Oppinions pls open and honest , thanks. Also the man who does my taxes is a complete narcissistic. He rants and raves about how much younger his wife is, how him and his wife were so lucky and were the only ones to have gotten a house out in Martha's vineyard, how Trump is dumb and they should have made him president.instead because he went to college for 12 years, insults the less fortunate and says we live off of ssi and food Stamps lmao, how he has to pay 40 % tax because of people "like us" and it needs to stop etc. etc. His face turned red and he had a little narcissistic rage in office and shut the door on me because I say it how it is, I'll tell you you're a narc. Long story short he butted in my convo I had with another man in the office, because we were talking about lyme as we both had it. The guy who does my tax buts in and says " once you have lyme you have it forever, abx just bounce off of these little noodle shaped bacteria" I tried to explain about detox, biofilms etc but he was so superior and arrogant he says " I spent $4800 on a European sauna and it did nothing" He acts so superior and is one of the dumbstruck ppl I've met. Detox is ongoing not just a 1 time thing. We will not have this the rest of our lives, we are not all fu**** as he said. He really tried to discourage me there and says "lyme is not a good conversation to have with me" and put his head down and downed his eye brows and says " and the worst part about it is I'm suppose to be part of a heart study with Mayo clinic" after he just tried to throw me down and discourage me with all his snide comments and disrespectful things he says about people . I didn't feel bad for him at all. You can't help everyone and you can't save everyone. I don't bother to tell anyone or help anyone who doesn't want the help and who isn't a believer period. It's a waist of time. The other guy was really stunned and interested when I mentioned bartonella as he explained his terrible migraines and said he wants to make sure he doesn't have it asap. Sorry to ramble but yea I just really want to be a homeowner as I feel it's easier than paying rent every month and trying to keep up with treatment expenses as well. At least if your house is paid off , your paying mostly your house tax every year. I was offered section 8 but I feel a lot of people talk down on people who have this where it's a program that helps pay most of your rent and even helps you become a home owner. Also I am sick mentally and physically from this illness crap all these years and am now eligible for SSI . This is not how I want or plan to live as it's suppose to be temporary to get me back on my feet. At least instead of struggling with 3 kids and work as a single mom, if I get SSI it can help loads financially and help me have a chance to recover. I guess so many people down down on others who are on SSI so I was hesitant but at this point I no longer care and can barely work so I needed to apply for ssi benefits. Hopefully I can get at least 50% better to work again. Ssi isn't enough and I prefer to work. What a bummer. Anyone else on SSI or have to go on SSIfor a while. I'm only 30 yrs old.

We had our home many years before I got Lyme.
Our mortgage is less than renting.
We pay about $1200 a month for our home - including property taxes.
Renting has really gone up the past few years in my location.
Can’t get anything under 1500 per month.

We do get a few thousand back at tax time because I only work an average of four shifts a month and my husband and I do income splitting on our tax returns.

I’m fortunate that I have a husband who was able to carry the financial load because I was off work for over 5 years.

My rant about the the housing market in the US:

Its a bubble waiting to pop again....just like after the 08 recession.

Prices will drop, but not to where they were due to materials cost.. After that people wanted to move to the city, then after civil unrest and then covid, the rural areas became more popular. Now that auto gas is so expensive, i'm guessing some of those people will move to the cities again.

The impatient people moving back and forth are actually a small part of the crazy home prices.

As far as where to live, certain coastal areas are not very financially sane places to live. It does make sense to move away from those places.

Seems like the days that people stayed put and payed off their home are gone. I know to many who keep moving and starting out a 30 year all over again. This is how NOT to get ahead. And then people are brainwashed by non-reality TV into thinking they need some type of awesome home vs a simple modest one. So many simple homes get changed into something less affordable thanks to these house flipping TV shows.

My basic small house im in now didn't even have a garage..........so I built one with two friends over two years. I fixed the abused house, but didnt "upgrade" to unneeded things unless it made common sense vs just "house fashion". These are hard to find today.

For those who still want a simple home (now called a "starter home" (WTH?)).....those are not built anymore....thanks to greedy corporate builders and the "system.

I’m a young person hoping to buy a house soon. It stinks. Any time I save I end up needing to spend some on Lyme. I don’t get a tax return- I’m self employed. I also don’t get sick days, which wasn’t an issue until this year when I had a fever for 5 days and missed 2 days of work.
I’m hoping the market goes down in the next year so I can afford a house. I’m planning to buy a forever home- unless life circumstances change drastically.
I want to settle down and start an herb garden, grow trees, and have my property the way I want. I’d like to work from home- I do respite care. The kids can get into nature and spend time with my goats and dogs.
we’ll see what ends up happening.

Girlie - Exactly what I’m talking about. In the US anything in the center north or south generally has the cheapest housing supply, the coastal areas are expensive to live. There are exceptions though.

Haha tell me about it. I'll never understand why people live in a house, pay thousands already, then up and move and start all over. You can make anything simple and cheap look "nice" . I'm a saver not a spender. Lately I've been spending money on take out and such cheating a little with that lol. Other than that, literally all my my money goes in savings account and on my kids. One of my children get SSI so that also helps with some supplement, vitamins treatments etc. I buy my kids only what they need but my kids understand they gets things, but that we also use most of our money on our rent and our treatments so they're okay with that. I raised then to know that $ isn't everything and to save more than spending you can say. I'm a self doer because if you don't do it yourself, it won't get done. Once I knew I had this illness, I saved literally every single penny. Living in low income housing helps tremendously because our rent is based on my income. I don't like living like this, but if it helps then whatever. I'd just much rather try to save money for a house rather than waist it year by year on an llmd. It's just a bummer but I guess everything will happen at the right time whenever God wants it to. Some ppl on these forums are extremely lucky that they had parents whom they were passed down the family house to , or family whom has given them loans and such !!! I have no issue saving money, tbh idk how some ppl I know male double or triple what I make and still always complain they're broke or wish they made more money, the nerve lol!!!

I can relate to this post totally. I'm such a nature person and love spending time at the beach, near water, woods and hiking and around animals , all of which probably got me bit by a tick in the 1st place lol. My kids suffer with Lyme and Bart too. Everytime taxes come, it slowly gets spent on lyme!! Tell me about it your not lying lol. I had 13,000 last year with taxes and somehow it slowly went to lyme plus testing. That was a lot of money to me. I was so disappointed but remain positive and just see what happens. I'm also self employed but also have a regular part time job that's not self employed as a nurses assistant but I haven't worked doing that in like 7 months .It sucks.

I actually got section 8 for Hawaii. No this was not a hoax or joke!!!. It was legit but I decided not to go with 3 kids to just up and leave with this terrible illness. I'm thinking I would have died if I was that far away. Nobody to help, more expensive rent out there as well, and I would have to find a job because it's much more expensive out there. Imagine Hawaii though! I'm probably on my way to Vermont because section 8 accepted me fairly quick. I'm glad I have 3 boys but there getting bigger so I feel I need a 3 bdrm now.

I LOVE Hawaii. My husband and I were married there. We were married in the gardens of the Royal Hawaiian hotel (the pink hotel).
Now our son and his fiancé are going to do the same - next year.

Lol - we take two planes to go to Hawaii. One small plane to get off the island and then a second plane from the mainland. First plane is under an hour. Second one is about 5 hours.
We try to reserve bulk head seats - they have more leg room.
My husband (6’2”) can stretch his legs a bit.

The planes have been getting smaller and smaller over the last 30 years since we’ve been going there.

Another key is not getting a chronic illness! :-(

It definitely made sense for us - even tho our mortgage rate is higher than 2.8.%
We were able to lengthen the amortization which lowered our monthly mortgage payments.
This allows us the $$ to go on a few vacations before and after retirement.
… and our mortgage is lower than renting a house would cost here.
Will we have a mortgage when we die - yup? Who cares ?
Not us. The house will be sold for a lot more than the current mortgage is.
