Nattokinase and heavy,prolonged menstrual bleeding

Hi All,
Slightly off topic, but just wondering if there is any connection here....so I am 50 years old and I think in perimenopause. For the first time ever, I am bleeding continuosly for 17 days now. I am wondering if the nattokinase and serrapeptase that I am taking could be a contributing factor since it thins the blood or is this likely purely hormonal? (I finally made an appt and will see my gyn later this week...I try to avoid "regular" doctors, but I need to make sure there isn't something else going on (like cancer).....

I know that some women with endometriosis take both of these to help with the dissolving of fibrin and the shrinkage of fibroid tumors and endometriosis, but I have not heard of it causing internal bleeding unless you are taking aspirin also. Taking with aspirin, that would not be a vaginal bleed, that would be intestinal.

My "guess" is menopause. That can make periods so weird. I suggest you stop the natto and serra until you can see your doctor. Just to be on the safe side.

And, I would not take any aspirin or ibuprofen either, until you see your doc.

So sorry you are going through this. Not fun at all!!

Soy is well-known to have significant effects on hormones, especially in women. Maybe consider doing some research into whether that could affect periods?

my partner had crazy heavy periods and then episodes where her periods would stop for a cycle or two - then start again

it was caused by lyme and bart messing with her hormones - she had other hormone related symptoms.
-swollen breasts
-flushes
-sudden nausea
-crazy food cravings
etc

Nattokinase is a blood thinner. It's completely normal for it to make menstrual bleeding heavier, regardless of whether someone is in perimenopause. If you're someone who bleeds heavily to begin with, then nattokinase might not be manageable for you, unfortunately.
