I have chronic Lyme and been on these tinctures for a week. 2 drops each daily and it’s tearing my stomach to pieces. Is it herx or side effects. Is this a long long term treatment? I’m also doing epson salt baths as welll as gluten free/ no sugar diet. Any advice is appreciated

hi,
i have been treating with herbs for several years now - but no experience with those specific combinations
i would say that herxhimer reactions from doses as low as these seem unlikely - i have had herx like reactions from doses as low as 15 drops a day when starting a new herb tincture - but now take up to 200 drops a day of various herbs from buhner's protocols
but we do have members who react incredibly strongly to even a single drop or even a fraction of a drop of a herb tincture dissolved in a glass of water
its not known exactly wat is going on here - but in terms of killing borrelia or bartonella - these concentrations do not appear to be anywhere near those needed to be strongly antimicrobial - so we can only assume its some immune mediated effect that the body is having to the herbs
many people with these infections have issues with chemical sensitivity or MCAS reactions to various triggers - so it could be that the reactions you are experiencing are related to this phenomenon
low sugar / GF diets appear to be a good thing for peole with lyme to aid the body in its fight with the disease
yes treatment durations with lyme and co are typically white long - months or years
some people say the rule of thumb of 1 month of aggressive therapy for every year you have been ill
but in truth - its highly variable from person to person and can be longer in many cases - and yet in a few cases people even seem to recover with little or no treatment.
a great deal depends on other factors acting on your body - like general health, diet, stress, sleep etc - and also the state of our immune systems prior to getting lyme -
in many cases it only seems to get a hold because our immune system has been knocked back by something else - eg stress, physical trauma - like a road accident or surgery - or some other illness.
likewise - focusing on general health, diet, stress, sleep etc can help one move forward significantly

Herbs really messed with my stomach about 4 years ago. Not sure if it was herx, but it stopped a week or two after stopping herbs.

I have a strong negative reaction to Beyond Balance MC bar2.
I can't take even take one sip of one diluted drop.
I lost a year of treatment fooling around with this.
It turns out I have severe MCAS issues and many things commonly recommended make me quite sick, including ALA, quercetin and many/most/all used to detox.
A herx will usually develop over days, not minutes from taking something.

I am taking a number of Byron White Herbals (15 drops each 2 times a day) including the two mentioned. Yes, It hurt my stomach in the beginning. I am now making sure I dilute it in about 2oz of water. I also don't take it on a completely empty stomach. I put just a little something in my stomach before hand. They are powerful herbals and the naturopath I was seeing suggested both these ideas. She indicated they were so powerful they would work with these modifications. I am also quick to get more in my stomach after 20 mins of taking the herbs.

yep - i always take my tinctures around 5-10 minutes before food
if i don't eat shortly after taking them i can certainly feel something is going on

Thanks for responses. Nancybear, how long have you been taking the herbs and are you seeing any progress? I’ve been told to expect months or a year on these tinctures . I’ve been on these for two months and zero improvement. Thanks

Glad you asked that question. I need to reflect on the progress. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the angst of the day to day we forget to see the seemingly small improvements we have made. So it has been almost 6 months of the Byron White Herbals. The ramps ups are slow to get to the full dose. I started with A-L and A-Bart later added A-Bab and A-V. I requested the A-V which is not usual at the early stages of treatment according to the ND I saw. But I ran out of it for a week or 2 and felt much worse without it, more heavy, more lethargic.
So to answer your question have I seen improvement. I have seen significant improvements in areas that have been the scariest for me: My eyesight and my ears. Eye are much less blurry. My ears were having glass shard type pain. Ear pain gone but still some kind of congestion in that area. Feet/nerve pain is less too. But I still have overall systemic inflammation that causes pain, lyme arthritis is very difficult.
I have to say after being on doxycycline for 6 months my body was so relieved to be on just the herbals (my choice). I can feel it going about systematically working on things. Yes, it seems to take months to work things out. Bodies have a innate knowing and know how to work with nature's gifts (the herbals). It goes to the areas that are critical first and you may not feel better for it. Internal organs need lots of help and healing. I don't think we always feel those improvements but they are a critical first step.
So it is painfully slow both physically and figuratively but improvements are happening. I've had lyme and co-infections for 20 years before being diagnosed.
I find an ionic foot bath a few times a week very helpful for detoxing. My internal detox organs (Kidneys, Liver, Spleen) are improved for it. I can feel how much better one or more of them feel after.
There are topical items I have found bring ease and accelerate healing also. I use essential oils for calming (I have lots of anxiety). I also use Tea Tree and Grapefruit Seed Extract alternating on some of my hot spots (ears, face, feet, upper/inner thighs(closest I'm willing to get to my vaginal/bladder area) and on the swollen lumps that seem to come and go.
There are lots of good resources here. Search on any topic and find lots of threads. I'm grateful for the community.
